On the Wrists of Female Media Moguls

Media is no longer just a man’s world, and women continue to take leadership positions in the ever evolving industry.

Today, they are leading powerful companies, launching their own ventures and even redefining the future of the industry. Here are the new mavens of old, new and digital media, and what they use to keep time.

Arianna Huffington was the co-founder and editor-in-chief of Huffington Post, the must-read news aggregator which is now a household name. The site is now owned by AOL, but Arianna’s not stopping – the columnist, radio host and author has penned 15 books and is now running a company focused on stress and burnout management. She dons a classic two-tone Rolex Datejust.

Most people know Sofia Vergara as a model and actress who rose to fame as Gloria from the hit series Modern Family. The Colombian native started as a host in the late ‘90s, and founded a Hispanic talent management first called Latin World Entertainment. By 2012, Vergara was the highest-paid actress in U.S. television, and her marketing company is said to have made $27 million. She wears no less than a diamond-encrusted Rolex Datejust.

Ellen De Generes is best known as a comedian and day-time show host, but she also has a multi-platform empire under her belt. While she suffered a career blow in the late 90’s due to poor ratings of her eponymous sitcom, she re-emerged in 2003 with The Ellen DeGeneres Show which proved to be a critical hit and a commercial success. Today, she also has her own lifestyle line, a record label and a production company. She has a huge watch collection, but is said to favor her vintage and current Rolex Daytonas.

Martha Stewart is known to many as the Queen of Domestic Arts, who built a media empire out of scratch from her homemaking know-how. It began when she published her first cookbook “Entertaining” in 1982, and she continued to publish several more cookbooks until the ‘90s, which slowly made her a household name. She formed Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia in 1997, which now owns her empire of books, magazines and television shows. She prefers to keep her style simple and classic with a Cartier Tank Americaine.

Her career may have started from infamy, but Kim Kardashian has proven herself a staunch businesswoman, even landing the cover of Forbes last year. The reality TV star has taken advantage of her huge following by creating several products tied to her name – a mobile game, a book, a clothing line, and an upcoming beauty line. Not shy about her success, she wears different Rolex watches, usually with diamonds.
