Best Vintage Reissue Watches

Omega Speedmaster

The vintage watch trend is here to stay. If the number of heritage watch reissues in recent years are any indication, watch lovers are still crazy about modernized versions of old-school timepieces.

Watchmakers are pulling from their archives to bring back features, and even actual models, for today’s enthusiasts, creating a wave after wave of heritage reissues.

We thought we’d share our favorite comeback pieces ever – examples of retro, done right.

OMEGA SPEEDMASTER ‘57
Homage to: the 1957 Omega Speedmaster CK2915
Launched in: 2015
br

This watch was launched to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the original Speedmaster – the CK2915 or the original “Broad Arrow” watch. It also happens to be the first chronograph wristwatch in the world with its tachymeter scale on the bezel (instead of on the dial).
br

It kept the black dial, beige transferred dial indications, and of course, the broad arrow and tachymeter scale bezel – but is now powered by the calibre 9300 – the first of Omega’s Co-Axial Calibres to have the chronograph function.

Tudor Heritage Black Bay
TUDOR HERITAGE BLACK BAY
Homage to: Tudor Submariner / 1950’s
Launched in: 2012
br
Now, the Tudor Heritage Black Bay is not the remake of one particular watch, but is a tribute to Tudor’s dive watches from yesteryears. That’s why it doesn’t look exactly like any particular watch, but combines several noteworthy traits – the big crown, bright lume, gilt dial, and the “Snowflake” hour and seconds hands.
br
It runs on the Tudor-modified caliber 2824, and is available in three bezel colors: burgundy, blue, and black.

Breilting Superocean Heritage
BR
BREITLING SUPEROCEAN HERITAGE
Homage to: Breitling Superocean / 1957
Launched in: 2007
br
Breitling had its expertise in aviation watches firmly established for decades, but they announced their entry into diving watches in 1957 with the Breitling Superocean. The Superocean Heritage was launched to commemorate its 50th anniversary – bringing back the steel bracelet and Breitling’s 1950’s logo for this collection.
br
In tune with modern tastes, the Superocean Heritage was launched with more colorways, larger 38mm and 46mm cases, and bracelet options of rubber, leather, and steel mesh.

Omega Speedmaster Mark II
br
OMEGA SPEEDMASTER MARK II
Homage to: Omega Speedmaster Mark II / 1969
Launched in: 2014
br
This watch has a very retro look at first glance; and that’s because all the modern changes happened on the inside. It kept the 1969 original’s tonneau-shaped case, brushed stainless steel case and bracelet, and monochromatic dial. It’s almost like having the original on your wrist.
br
The modern Mark II has a “racing dial” version that features a bold, fluorescent orange chronograph seconds hand and hour markers. It also runs on the co-axial caliber 3330.

IWC Portugese Chrono
IWC PORTUGUESE CHRONOGRAPH
Homage to: IWC Portuguese / 1939
Launched in: 1998
BR
The Portuguese Chronograph is one of the most successful watches that IWC has ever produced, and while it’s known as a classically modern watch, its inspiration actually goes back to IWC’s Portuguese watches of 1939.
BR
Changes in the Portuguese Chronograph were the larger case, the vertical layout of the chronograph registers, and the addition of the date aperture.
The watch was almost forgotten completely, but thanks to an old model that made its way to IWC’s atelier, they brought it back in time for the company’s 125th anniversary.
