Omega Tokyo 2020 Collection

Omega Speedmaster Tokyo 2020 Olympics Limited Edition

It may be a year late, but the Tokyo 2020 Olympics are in full swing. Playing a pivotal role in the games is Omega, the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games.

No other brand has been more actively involved in sports timekeeping. Omega has been timing the Olympics since 1932; and is now on their 29th turn in the role.

In keeping with tradition, Omega also presented special edition watches dedicated to this major sporting event.

Not only do they offer a piece of sporting and horological history — these watches also give winning performances on the wrist. Check out Omega’s Tokyo 2020 watches:

Omega began the countdown to the Olympics in 2018, with the Omega Speedmaster Tokyo 2020 Limited Edition. This collection is made exclusive to the Japanese market, so a search of these watches will lead you to the Japanese Omega website. Don’t fret – SwissWatchExpo was able to get a hold of several of them right here.

The Speedmaster Tokyo 2020 Collection is comprised of five watches, with each piece inspired by the five colors of the Olympic flag.

Two of the models are two-tone, combining stainless steel and a yellow or rose gold finish. The gold is found on the pushers, crown, and bezel.

The blue model is reminiscent of the 2006 Gemini IV limited edition, with a blue bezel, brushed blue dial and white chronograph subdials.

The model that represents the black ring comes in a Panda design, with a silvery-white opaline dial and black sub-counters.

Last but not the least, the red flag is evoked on the red bezel version, whose sandblasted light grey dial with silver-coloured indices and hands lets the red details pop.

All of the watches are in classic Speedmaster design – 42mm steel case, tachymeter scale on the bezel, 3-6-9 layout for the chronograph and a Caliber 1861 mechanical movement.

Instead of the usual sapphire caseback, these watches feature a solid steel back with a stamped Tokyo 2020 Olympics logo. Touches of red are seen on the seconds hand and on the Speedmaster logo.

Of course, the Omega Seamaster range also pays tribute to the historic event. There are 4 designs available, each presenting a unique way of celebrating the Tokyo Olympics.

The Aqua Terra was given a sweeping change with the line’s first ever ceramic dial. The Cubist-inspired Olympic emblem is laser-engraved on the blue, high-polish surface and is complemented by rhodium-plated hands and indices.

The commemorative Aqua Terra piece is available in stainless steel or in 18k yellow gold, in 38 and 41mm sizes.

The Omega Seamaster 300M Diver gives a more subtle nod to the Olympics by using the Tokyo 2020 emblem’s white and blue colorway. The bezel insert is in blue ceramic, offset by the polished white ceramic dial and its laser-engraved wave patterns.

Finally, the Omega Planet Ocean was given unique flair as a tribute to the host country, Japan. The model is a vision with its steel and all-white construction, embellished only by a red number 20 on the ceramic bezel and a red-tipped lollipop seconds hand – a clever nod to the simple but iconic Japanese flag.

Each of the watches come with a sapphire caseback with a transferred Tokyo  Olympic Games emblem.
