Christian Bale Movie Watches

Christian Bale is known for giving his all with every character he plays. The English actor has transformed into the most complex personas – from a mysterious superhero to an axe-wielding psychopath – and has drastically changed his appearance along the way. Talk about commitment!

Aside from physical transformations and wardrobe decisions, part of Bale’s arsenal are different timepieces, which help both the character and the milieu come to life. Here are the movie watches of Christian Bale.

In 2019’s Ford v Ferrari, Bale plays race driver Ken Miles, who was on a quest to build a racecar alongside famed automobile designer Carroll Shelby. Both characters wore vintage Heuer timepieces for the film – a perfect casting choice given Heuer’s racing heritage.

Bale sported an Autavia ref 2446, better known as the “Rindt”, after Formula 1 champion Jochen Rindt who wore it while racing in the 1960s. It features a reverse Panda dial and big chronograph registers.

Fast forward to 2017, Tag Heuer hosted the Autavia Cup, which let enthusiasts vote for a historic Autavia model that they’d like to see re-issued. The Autavia “Rindt” won, and Tag Heuer proceeded to make a modern recreation with the ref CBE2110. It honors the original design, but with decisively modern proportions and an in-house movement. Photos from Christies and Ford v. Ferrari on Instagram

Rolex President Day-Date Yellow Gold Champagne Dial Mens Watch 18238

Rolex Day-Date in American Hustle

The Rolex President Day-Date is an instantly recognizable expression of the wearer’s power and prominence. For two of his films, Bale wore a solid yellow gold edition of the President’s watch.

In American Hustle, Bale played con-artist turned FBI agent Irving Rosenfeld, who had to present himself as a man of refined taste. Aside from an interesting wardrobe of suits and lots of prints, the Rolex Day-Date established him as a man who has made it. Video from Sony Pictures Entertainment on YouTube

Rolex Day-Date in Vice

In the 2018 biopic Vice, Bale played former US Vice President Dick Cheney, who happened to wear a Rolex Day-Date in real life. The late statesman wore a yellow gold edition during his two terms in office, so there really was no better choice for the role. We spied a raised acrylic crystal on-screen, which dates Cheney’s watch to a five-digit model from the 1970s. Video from GQ on YouTube

Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso in The Dark Knight Trilogy

Bale took on the role of Bruce Wayne, better known as Batman, from 2005 to 2012 in The Dark Knight Trilogy. The character has been sporting Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso watches since the 1990s and when you think about it, the dual-face watch is the perfect timepiece for the man who’s a billionaire by day, vigilante by night.

Bale wore a JLC Reverso Grande Taille for the first two installments of the trilogy. Grande Taille is French for “big size” and these taller designs were part of an effort to modernize the range. Photo from GQ Magazine on Twitter

For The Dark Knight Rises, the final part of the trilogy, Bale wore a JLC Grande Date, which features a large dual date window aperture. The characteristic Art Deco design with two sides to it is an inspired choice for Batman who lives behind a mask.

Rolex Datejust in American Pyscho

In one of his most memorable roles, Bale played investment banker turned serial killer Patrick Bateman in the 2000 film American Psycho.

Set in the 1980s, it shows the Wall Street hotshot wearing one of the most ubiquitous accessories of the time – a two tone Rolex Datejust. More specifically, it has a five-piece Jubilee bracelet and a tapestry dial – a masterful choice for the pinstriped-clad banker.

While Rolex was mentioned at least 26 times in the novel of the same title, the brand distanced itself from the film because of its dark theme. Video from Lionsgate on YouTube
