Spike Lee Watch Collection

Director, producer and activist Spike Lee is best known for films that tackle relevant social issues. His uncompromising take on race, violence, and politics resonate with audiences even decades after.

Spike is just as radical outside the director’s chair, with an off-beat and head-turning sense of style. Vibrant colors, unexpected pairings, lots of attitude – and amazing timepieces to match – make Spike one of the most underrated style icons of Hollywood. Check out Spike Lee’s watch collection.

GMT Master II Everose

Rolex GMT-Master II Everose

For the 2020 Oscars, Spike wore a show-stopping purple suit with gold trimmings and the number 24 on his lapels – a tribute to the late Kobe Bryant. He chose the equally stunning Rolex GMT-Master II Everose to match his statement outfit.

Introduced in 2018, this was the first GMT-Master II model to come in a solid construction of the company’s rose gold alloy. It also features a black and brown dual-color Cerachrom bezel, which resembles the iconic Root Beer colorway.

Custom Rolex Daytona Watches

Spike brought his creativity to the watch world by co-creating two custom Rolex Daytona watches. They were designed with Les Artisans de Genève, a company known for making eclectic aftermarket modified watches and collaborations with famous creatives.

Spike put his own design spin on the Rolex Daytona with the ‘Cool Hand Brooklyn’ Rolex (above). With a blue and orange color scheme, it’s a tribute to the New York Knicks, his favorite basketball team. The piece started out as a ref 116520 Daytona, then given a blue Bakelite bezel, a blue sunburst dial, and bright orange markings. (photos: Les Artisans de Genève)

Daytona Cool Hand Brooklyn Skeleton

Following his first personalization, Spike worked with Les Artisans de Genève yet again to create the ‘Cool Hand Brooklyn Skeleton’. The design was inspired by Spike’s deep love for Brooklyn, New York where he grew up, hence its distinctly urban look and the use of Spike’s favorite colors – orange and blue.

The base movement of the watch remains the Calibre 4130 of the Daytona, but reworked to show parts of the movement on the dial.

Daytona Black Dial

Spike has long been a Rolex Daytona fan, going way back in the early 2000s. He wore a ref 116520 Rolex Daytona, which was the first ever version of the famous chronograph to be equipped with an in-house movement – the Caliber 4130.

Spike was also well ahead of the vintage watch craze. Two decades ago, he was already collecting vintage Rolex Daytona steel models, which are now among the most expensive vintage watches on the market. Spike wears a black dial Rolex Daytona Paul Newman ref 6240 and a non-Paul Newman ref 6263.

JLC Reverso Classic

Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Classic

Aside from his obvious love of Rolex, Spike is also a fan of Jaeger LeCoultre timepieces. He wears a Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Classic, whose Art Deco styling and combined dress-and-sport appeal is the perfect complement to his vibrant red carpet outfits.

JLC Amvox

Spike also wears Jaeger LeCoultre watches with sporting appeal. He’s been spotted with the JLC Amvox 2 chronograph. The Amvox line from Jaeger LeCoultre was born out of their partnership with British luxury car maker Aston Martin. Spike’s choice from the collection combines black, silver, and red plus stylish lines and elegant curves, which calls to mind a luxury automobile.

Reverso Gran Sport Duo

The JLC Reverso is now considered an elegant dress watch, but it began as a sporting watch for polo players. Spike’s Reverso Gran Sport Duo is a reissued timepiece that is faithful to the earliest Reverso models with its slightly wider case and utilitarian look.
