Ultimate Guide to Rolex Green Dial Watches

rolex green dial

Green used to be an unorthodox color in the watch world. This hue is bound to attract enthusiasts with its quirky but irresistible appeal.

Today, it’s a different story, with almost every watch brand having their own green dialpieces – from military and olive green shades to pastel and racing green colors. With greenas their signature color, Rolex was ahead of the pack, having used the vivid hue in their iconic Day-Date, Datejust, and Submariner lines decades back.

In the mood for green? Here are the best green dial watches from The Crown:

Rolex GMT-Master II 116718LN

The GMT-Master II was the first among Rolex sport watches to be given a green dial. In 2005, the brand introduced an updated model to celebrate the half-century existence of the GMT-Master.

The 116718LN features a 40mm case and runs on a Caliber 3186 movement. The emerald green dial shines a little bit extra with its glossy finish and serves as the perfect backdrop to the Super-Luminova hands and indices with yellow gold surrounds.

Evoking a masculine feel, the watch also marks the first appearance of the Cerachrom bezel in all Rolexes. This black bezel comes with golden 24-hour gradations that complement the yellow gold case and bracelet.

Rolex Submariner Hulk 116610LV

While the 2003 Rolex Kermit introduced the green bezel to the Submariner line, the RolexHulk gave a one-two punch: a green dial in addition to a green Cerachrom bezel.

The Hulk was named such by the brand’s faithfuls as it boasts a green-on-green look and a Super Case and Maxi Dial that both give off maximum presence on the wrist. Its massive crown guard, wide lugs, and larger lume plots give off a heftier look.

Boasting a sunburst finish, the dial is in forest green — a darker take on the citrus green Kermit— and has a magnified date window. The brand recently discontinued the 116610LV to make way for the 2021 edition (ref 126610LV), which brings back the Kermit’s green bezel-black dial combination. Today, the Hulk is still highly sought-after in the pre-owned market.

Rolex Day-Date 40 228239

The Crown is best-known for creating milestone watches with their signature hue, but for the Day-Date’s 60th anniversary, they introduced a softer take on the green dial matched with a 40mm case.

The ref 228235 exudes sophistication with its sunburst olive dial, paired with a choice of an 18k Everose or white gold case. The faceted baton and Roman numerals are also a clever combination as they give the dial a more streamlined look. Together, these details reflect light beautifully when combined with the fluted bezel.

Rolex Daytona 116508

The Daytona ref 116508 isn’t an anniversary model, but it has earned the same cult status among connoisseurs. Released in 2016 alongside the steel and ceramic Daytona ref 116500, it features a yellow gold finish and a “racing greendial, which earned it the nickname “Gold Hulk.”

Unlike the steel Daytona, the ref 116508 was a sleeper hit. While it’s a sure standout due to its regal look, it only took off in a major way in 2019, when John Mayer showed it as part of his collection in Hodinkee’s Talking Watches.

Today, it’s a celebrity favorite. The sunburst green dial is complemented with gold-trimmed indices and chronograph registers in white, red, and gold, which maintain the edgy aesthetic that Daytona fans have come to love.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual ref 124300

The Oyster Perpetual has always been the “purist’s Rolex,” with its time-only dial and steel construction. In 2020, the brand made a remarkable change to the collection by adding pastel and neon dial colors, inspired by Rolex Day-Date “Stella Dials” from the 1970s. Of course, green was included in the options – in a glossy forest green shade that is most associated with Rolex.

The ref 124300 also marked birth of the 41mm case, replacing the 39mm edition, which used to be the largest size in the line. The smooth bezel increases the watch’s sleek look while the luminous baton indices give it a contemporary feel.

Rolex Datejust Palm Dial ref 126233

The recent years have shown Rolex’s ability to experiment with their offerings. In 2020, we got the Oyster Perpetual’s bright “Stella” dials, and a year after, the brand gave the spotlight to the Datejust by releasing a refreshing Palm motif dial.

The Datejust ref 126233 comes in a 36mm stainless steel case, outfitted with the new generation Caliber 3235. As expected, the foliage-inspired dial comes in a green version with varying shades of the hue. Rolex went a step further by adding champagne and silver Palm dials to match the looks of the Rolesor yellow and Everose gold models.
