Oscars 2022: Our Favorite Watches

Cartier Tank Louis and Tank Solo Steel Watches

This year’s drama aside, the Academy Awards is still the biggest Hollywood event. Regarded by many as the most prestigious awards ceremony in the field of entertainment, the Oscars has got millions of people tuning in and the industry’s biggest stars looking their best.

With the pandemic-related restrictions slowly being lifted, the glitz and glamor everyone expects from the renowned gathering also returned in full swing. This year’s red carpet didn’t disappoint with an array of classic and statement-making looks, and of course, the right timepieces to finish them off.

Here are some of the best watches we spotted during the 2022 Oscars:

Cartier Tank Solo Silver Dial Steel Mens Watch W5200014

Cartier Tank on Rami Malek and Jake Gyllenhaal

Cartier’s brand ambassadors Rami Malek and Jake Gyllenhaal showed up at the 2022 Oscars with the French Maison’s quintessential rectangular watch – the Cartier Tank. Introduced in 1917, this timepiece takes inspiration from the military tanks that debuted during World War I.

Tanks are more often seen with leather straps but Rami went for the timeless steel-on-steel version with an opaline dial and a blue spinel cabochon crown. The Bohemian Rhapsody star already took home an Oscar in 2019, so he kept things simple but still chic by pairing his Tank with a classic tuxedo and a Cartier lapel pin.

Cartier Tank Chinoise

Jake’s Tank of choice definitely sparked interest as it is an edition that is not on the market. The actor wore a contemporary version of the Tank Chinoise from the 1920s, produced as part of the Collection Privée Cartier Paris. Characterized by its sleek profile and broad horizontal bars above and below the dial, this watch is recognizable even from afar. Photos from Cartier and Vogue Magazine on Twitter

Omega Speedmaster 57 332.12.41.51.11.001

Omega Speedmaster 57 on Jamie Dornan and Andrew Garfield

A tribute to the original CK2915 Speedmaster from 1957, the Omega Speedmaster ‘57 is equipped with a modern caliber 9300/9301 automatic movement, which is the first of the brand’s Co-Axial calibers to incorporate a chronograph function.

Launched in 2012, this watch remains faithful to the CK2915’s design DNA by boasting straight lugs, a crown-guard-less polished case, a steel tachymeter bezel, and alpha hands in the sub-dials. Omega revamped the collection this year with the METAS-certified Calibre 9906, and exciting new colors as seen on Jamie Dornan and Andrew Garfield.

Jamie went for the green version, which perfectly complemented his monochromatic Valentino ensemble. It features a black tachymeter scale and a sunburst green dial with contrasting rhodium-plated hands and indices, and two sub-dials beside 9 and 6 o’clock.

Meanwhile, Best Actor nominee Andrew Garfield wore the burgundy version with a black leather strap to match his velvet jacket and black shirt. This piece also has a slim build, a steel finish, and two counters instead of the usual three, but with a grainy burgundy dial. Photos from Omega and Netflix and Valentino on Twitter

Tag Heuer Monaco Calibre 02 Black Dial Steel Mens Watch CBL2113

TAG Heuer Monaco on Jacob Elordi

Jacob Elordi, star of HBO’s hit series Euphoria, attended the Oscars for the first time as the presenter for the Best Visual Effects award. The Australian actor looked dapper in a tailored suit by Burberry and added a bit of edge with the Tag Heuer Monaco.

He wore the Ref. CBL2113, which gives superior wrist presence with its unique square case, steel construction, and sporty look. Loved for its racing pedigree, the watch also has red accents all over the dial that provide a beautiful splash of color. Photo from The Hollywood Reporter on Twitter
