3 White Gold Rolex Daytona Watches

The Rolex Daytona was first introduced in 1963 as a chronograph for professional racers. With highly recognizable aesthetics and unmatched performance, it is considered as one of the brand’s most iconic pieces.

With the use of gold finishes and exquisite materials such as precious stones and mother of pearl, the Rolex Daytona slowly crossed over from a tool watch to a luxury chronograph. Today, they are hardly used to measure elapsed times, but as statement timepieces with the ability to elevate any ensemble.

Among Rolex Daytonas, the 18k white gold versions bridge its opulent personas best. They look similar to stainless steel, but one can’t mistake the lustrous sheen of white gold, and the weight of a pedigree watch. If that suits your taste, here are our favorite Rolex Daytonas in white gold:

Rolex Daytona White Gold Racing Dial 116509

The Daytona 116509, launched in 2016, is a playful take on the classic Daytona. It bears the Daytona‘s signature traits – the Oyster case, tachymeter bezel, screw-down pushers, and three-piece Oyster bracelet – but the most significant change for this timepiece is the addition of a blue sunburst dial. It complements the white gold metal, with varying blue hues shining through the radially brushed dial.

Eye-catching yet versatile, the blue tone is slightly darker than the cobalt blue used in the yellow Rolesor and yellow gold Submariner model.

With the red accents inside the chronograph counters and the luminous markers with whitegold surrounds, the 116509 pays homage to the Daytona‘s racing roots. The bezel design was made more striking with its fine black engravings.

Next, we have the 116519 Grey Dial, released in 2020 as part of the modern-production Daytona line. This model has a sleek design and runs on Caliber 4130 – a reliable chronograph mechanism first launched in 2000, which provides precision of +2 / -2 seconds a day, and a 72-hour power reserve.

Much like the previous model, the 116519 measures 40mm and has a superbly executed tachymeter bezel but in black ceramic. It also features a panda dial often seen on chronographs, but instead of white, the 116519 Daytona uses a steel backing with black counters, and applied hour markers and hands coated with Chromalight, Rolex‘s longer-lasting luminescence.

When it comes to the strap, Rolex went for the subdued black Oysterflex bracelet. On the outside, it’s crafted from black elastomer, a material that is resistant to harsh conditions; inside sits a metal blade that ensures the bracelet’s sturdiness. With the two combined, the Oysterflex boasts of the same durability as a metal bracelet with the comfort of a rubber strap.

Adding extra sparkle are diamond hour markers with white gold surrounds. Aside from providing character, they also offer a stunning contrast against the dials.

Of course, the classic Daytona traits remained such as the automatic Caliber 4130 under its hood, chronograph registers with silver outlines, and large pushers, which allow wearers to start and stop the stopwatch feature.
