First launched in the 1950s’, the Rolex Day-Date is one of the premier offerings of the brand. It also made history as the first watch to display the date and the day of the week spelled out in full. Available in 18k gold or 950 platinum configurations, the Day-Date has now become associated with success and accomplishment.

Platinum models bear all of the distinguishing elements of a Day-Date such as a day window at 12 and a three-piece President bracelet. However, what sets them apart are their vibrant icy blue dials, surrounded by a smooth bezel.

In 2022, Rolex introduced the ref 228236 Day-Date 40, which marks the first time that the signature fluted bezel is crafted in platinum. It steals attention with its polished finish, unisex sizing, and sunburst dial with a blue seconds hand and raised Roman numerals. Inside, it runs on the Caliber 3255 – a reliable movement with a 70-hour power reserve and a ±2 seconds a day accuracy rating.

Rolex Yacht-Master 40

While many Rolex Day-Date models boast a platinum finish from the case and bezel down to the bracelet and crown, the Yacht-Master features platinum bezels only. Paired with steel construction, this combination of metals is dubbed “Rolesium.”

The first Yacht-Master platinum bezel watch was introduced in 2003 with the ref 116622. Measuring 40mm, it featured a steel case and a steel Oyster bracelet, paired with a platinum bezel, and a dial with a sandblasted matte finish. The use of platinum for this model reinforces the sporty and luxe themes of the Yachtmaster. It was eventually offered in 35mm and 29mm sizes as well.

In 2016, Rolex replaced the ref 116622 with rhodium and blue dial models that still keep the platinum bezel. The dials come in a sunburst finish – bright blue with red text and central seconds hand, and rhodium with turquoise detailing. The brand offers them in both 40mm and 37mm versions.

Rolex Yacht-Master II

Like the Yacht-Master collection, the Yacht-Master II line also offers a timepiece with a platinum-insert bezel. However, instead of the usual steel finish, it comes with an 18k white gold construction from the case down to the bracelet.

The ref 116689 exudes sophistication with its crisp white dial and white gold bezel, with a frosted platinum insert and raised texts. The square hour markers on the dial, the radial small seconds sub-dial, and the blue and red regatta scale and hands are also a clever combination as they give the dial a playful but harmonious look.

At 44mm, the 116689 is also one of the largest pieces in the Rolex lineup. Apart from offering a 100-meter depth rating, the watch also has the 44-jewel Caliber 4131 at its core. Together, these details make for a watch that feels substantial on the wrist.
