These Actors Love the Cartier Tank

There’s no doubt about it: the Cartier Tank is an enduring icon of the watch world. The jazz age timepiece not only remains in production today but is also considered a wardrobe and red-carpet favorite.

With a streamlined design and clean lines, the Tank is a capable dress watch loved by famous personalities and seasoned collectors, among others.

The no-frills yet elegant Tank is a go-to when establishing a dapper look, and there is a wide range of models to choose from in different finishes, sizes, complications, and movements. Looking to buy a Cartier Tank? Take your cue from the who’s who of Hollywood:

CARTIER TANK SOLO as seen on Henry Golding, Jeff Goldblum, and Rami Malek

The Tank Solo is a great entry point if you are looking to get into the Cartier Tank and there are a few reasons why. It echoes the design elements of the original Tank but comes at a more affordable price point because of a quartz movement beating under its hood.

However, having such a mechanism doesn’t mean it’s any less elegant. The gold version – as seen on Henry Golding and Jeff Goldblum – can take you from casual to formal affairs. Sized at 37mm, the watch features a sleek profile and a blue cabochon crown. The silver dial provides great contrast against the painted Roman numerals. and blued hands, while the black leather strap completes the elegant look.

With its flatter brancards, the Tank also gives off a sportier look. Rami Malek balances out a classic tuxedo with an all-steel model in a large case. This version has a simple dial with complimenting black markers and blued hands. Paired with a link bracelet, each element of this Tank Solo is superbly finished.

CARTIER TANK AMERICAINE as seen on Tom Holland and Rami Malek

Introduced in the 1980s, the Tank Americaine takes inspiration from the emblematic Tank Cintreé. This model is more elongated, robust, and curvy than most Tanks. The result is a timepiece that hugs the wrist more comfortably but still retains the classic Tank’s design DNA.

Tom Holland went for the gold edition, which has a dressy feel. It also features smooth brancards and a guilloche dial with contrasting Roman numerals and a date window above 6.

Meanwhile, Rami Malek prefers the steel version with a black leather strap to match his exquisitely tailored suits. This piece also has a slim build, a self-winding movement, and a blue cabochon crown, but with a sunburst silver dial.

CARTIER TANK MC as seen on Dan Levy

The Tank MC was launched in 2013 as a more masculine take on the classic Tank watch. To address the demand for larger watches, it took on a wider case with well-defined square dimensions. Moreover, it introduced slate, black, and blue guilloche dials to the Tank line resulting in more contemporary looks.

Dan’s preferred model comes in 18k rose gold construction with a silvered guilloche dial. The date window at 3 and the small seconds counter at 6 give the watch a sporty appeal, while the rose gold indices add a dash of elegance.

CARTIER TANK MUST as seen on Robert Pattinson

The Tank Must is a sleek interpretation of the 1980s Les Must de Cartier model. Revived in 2021, the current collection’s rounder angles and minimalist dials put great emphasis on the bold colors.

Robert Pattinson wears the Ref. WSTA0054, whose burgundy colorway adds a pop of color to a neutral ensemble. It also features steel construction, a deep red dial with a silver signature and hands, and a quartz movement with 8-year battery life.

CARTIER TANK Louis as seen on Jason Momoa

In a world where action men wear watches with daunting proportions, Jason Momoa differentiates himself by going for the versatile Tank Louis Cartier XL. First introduced in the late 1910s, it has become the standard for modern-day Tank pieces.

The model he favors has a rose gold construction, paired with smooth rounded brancards and a brown alligator strap. Boasting a grainy finish, the silver dial features black Roman numerals and an inner minute track, which all make for a timeless look.
