Nautilus & More: 5 Patek Philippe Watches for Her

Patek Philippe Aquanaut Luce Diamond

Patek Philippe sits at the pinnacle of watchmaking. Renowned for classic designs and horological inventions, their evergreen designs remain relevant to this day and get even better each year.

Patek’s most popular watches – such as the Nautilus and Aquanaut – are primarily geared towards men, but the Swiss powerhouse actually has a long history of making women’s watches. Some of the earliest clients of the brand were Madame Goscinska and Queen Victoria, earning Patek the title of “Queen’s Watchmaker”.

Today, Patek Philippe continues to create women’s watches that are just as complicated and reliable as their men’s counterparts, and lavishly finished, to boot. Here are 5 Patek Philippe ladies watches to own:

Patek Philippe Nautilus 7118

Introduced in 1976, the Nautilus is considered the most coveted timepiece in Patek Philippe’s catalog. Once the preserve of gents, it saw a surge in popularity among women, prompting the Swiss brand to rethink the ladies’ versions of the iconic watch in 2009.

Among the upgrades introduced to the Nautilus line were larger cases as well as the wave motif on the dials in place of the hallmark straight line ribbing on the Nautilus.

Today, one of the most well-loved pieces in the women’s Nautilus line is the ref. 7118, which features a 35mm case. Available in stainless steel and rose gold, with an option of a diamond-set bezel and dials that range from blue, rose gold, and silvery or gray opaline, the ref. 7118 answers the demand for larger women’s watches while softening the look of the iconic Gerald Genta design.

Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5267

The first Patek Philippe Aquanaut models for ladies were made in 1998, one year after the watch was introduced to the market. The ref. 5060A measured 34mm, while the ref. 4960A had a case size of 29.5mm. These pieces were visually identical to the original Aquanaut but only smaller and with quartz movements under their hoods.

In 2004, Patek introduced the Aquanaut Luce – a new generation of ladies’ quartz-driven Aquanaut models with diamonds. The Swiss company has recently updated this flagship collection with a larger diameter of 38.8 mm and an integrated strap whose curves mirror the curvature of the case and lugs.

Released in 2021, the new Aquanaut Luce comes in stainless steel (ref. 5267/200A) or rose gold (ref. 5268/200R and ref. 5269/200R) with a matching dial and composite strap in a choice of three hues: an elegant black, a neat matte white, and a bold khaki green. The ref. 5268/200R comes with a stop-second device, while the ref. 5269/200R boasts a dual-time function – a first for the Aquanaut Luce line.

Top Wesselton brilliant-cut diamonds on the bezel offer unparalleled wrist presence, while the dials stand out for their blend of sportiness and refinement.

Patek Philippe Calatrava 4897 / 4997

Patek originally introduced the Calatrava in 1932, and it has served as a dynamic blueprint for both men’s and women’s dress watches over the years. In 2009, Patek unveiled a new artistic face with the Ladies’ Calatrava ref. 4897. Featuring a guilloche lacquered dial in brown, midnight blue, cream, and gray, this model glistened with flashing light from the bezel, which was set with round or baguette-cut diamonds.

For 2021, Patek revisited the ref. 4897 to give it a modern appeal. When this watch debuted in 2009, the case was only 33mm in diameter. Its width has now been increased to 35mm with the new ref. 4997. The larger diameter provides an even better platform to showcase the handcrafted dial’s elegance.

Whether it’s 33mm or 35mm, this version of the Calatrava is crafted from white gold with 76 Top Wesselton brilliant-cut diamonds (0.52 ct.) on its frame, while the brushed satin calfskin strap with white-gold prong buckle ties the look together. The arrow-shaped “poudre” indices and dauphine hands lend added elegance.

Patek Philippe Twenty~4

The Twenty~4, which drew influence from the ladies’ Gondolo model, personifies classic feminine elegance. It was launched in 1999 and originally featured a rectangular case and quartz movement with either diamond-set rose gold or stainless steel casings. They were also offered in versatile dial colors – black, grey, blue, and white – each with Roman numerals at 12 and 6 o’clock, with the remaining hours marked by diamonds.

In 2018, Patek expanded the women’s collection with a number of eye-catching round dress watches with automatic movements. They are made of steel or rose gold and have attractive dials in delicate tones of blue, brown, and olive green accented by a sunburst finish. The bezel is accented by two staggered rows of diamonds set using the dentelle technique.

Whether square or round and whatever the occasion, the exceptional craftsmanship of Twenty~4 watches adds dazzling charm to any attire.
