The Watches of Mahershala Ali | The Watch Club by SwissWatchExpo

Mahershala Ali has had an impressive two-decade acting career, with a wide range of roles played in film, television, and theater. He made history in the previous decade by being the first Muslim actor to win an Oscar, and the first black actor to win two Oscars in the same category.

While making the rounds at awards shows, Mahershala has also become a red-carpet favorite with his clean and dapper fashion choices and impressive timepieces. Check out the watches of Mahershala Ali.

IWC Da Vinci

In 2017, Mahershala made history as the first Muslim Oscar Winner, when he won best supporting actor for the movie Moonlight. He wore a dignified black tuxedo, and added a pop of color with the IWC Da Vinci Chronograph Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation”.

Its blue dial and round case make for an attractive pairing. The allure of the dial is heightened with its sunray motif, raised Arabic numerals, and red accents on the second hand and the outer rim, while the 42mm stainless steel case is highly polished, with a slightly domed shape that will readily nuzzle beneath a stylish shirt cuff. Cartier Santos Skeleton

The 2019 Oscars was also a pretty big night for Mahershala, as he accepted his second Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Green Book. Ali rocked a pretty incredible watch – the Santos de Cartier Skeleton.

This timepiece is a particularly interesting choice because it blends Cartier’s design history with its fine watchmaking abilities. Its basics are built on the still-relatively-new Santos, released back in early 2018, which updated the century-old classic to be a bit more streamlined and contemporary.

Instead of the traditional silvered dial, we have the openworked Caliber 9611 MC, an in-house movement with bridges that serve as Roman numeral hour markers. Omega Constellation Master Chronometer

The 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards was truly unlike any other Emmy’s due to COVID-19 concerns – it was held digitally with the winners giving speeches virtually from their homes. Mahershala, who received a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, wore an Omega Constellation Co-Axial Master Chronometer in steel.

Patek Philippe World Time Complications

Mahershala also wears excellent timepieces on-screen. For his role as Cottonmouth in Marvel’s Luke Cage, the actor wears the Patek Philippe World Time Complications in white gold.

World Timers are among Patek Philippe’s most popular complications, with a history spanning almost 80 years. The particular model that Mahershala wears is the ref. 5230, whose winglet-style lugs are directly inspired by the Patek tradition. It is modern with sleek and dynamic lines and a balanced design owing much to its thin inclined bezel and slender profile.

The center dial features a beautiful hand-guilloche pattern, inspired by a pocket watch exhibited at the Patek Philippe museum, while raised baton indices add interest. TAG Heuer Monaco

For his appearance as Remy Danton in House of Cards, we spotted a TAG Heuer Monaco under Mahershala’s cuff. While we often see the Monaco with its iconic blue dial, the actor was wearing a unique model with a gray watch face.
