Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso In Movies

The Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso, with its 85 years of history, has pulled off elegantly what no other watch has – reinventing itself from a sports watch to a timeless dress watch worn by influential men and women the world over.

Created for polo players in 1931, the watch’s geometrical, swiveling case was meant to handle sporting blows. But with its almost-perfect proportions and Art Deco design, its appeal quickly spread beyond the polo fields.

Today, the Reverso is the ultimate day-to-night watch for dapper men, chic women and even on-screen leading men:

Pierce Brosnan wore the Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Duo in The Thomas Crown Affair, where he played a debonair, self-made billionaire. The accomplished man, who had little to desire for, decided to amuse himself and plans the ultimate, multi-million heist.

The watch’s brand name appeared to be erased from the commercial release, as Brosnan was still under contract with Omega for his James Bond films. The Reverso was hard to miss, nonetheless. Video from GQ on YouTube

Jaeger LeCoultre has been keeping time for billionaire-philanthropist Bruce Wayne for two decades, which began with the Val Kilmer-starrer Batman Forever. In the last Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises, Christian Bale wore a Reverso Grande Date.

For the film, JLC created a limited-edition Reverso Tribute to the 1931 piece, which had a bespoke engraved image of a bat filled with black lacquer on the caseback. It was a nod to the original Batman Reverso in Batman Forever. Leonardo DiCaprio, who played Jay Gatsby, prominently displayed a steel, rectangular watch in The Great Gatsby. While there was no press release from director Baz Luhrman, press articles and watch aficionados alike have placed their bets that the Art Deco-style watch definitely has to be a Reverso.
