The Beatles Watches

More than half a century after they took the music world by storm, The Beatles is still arguably the greatest recording group in history. But not only did they influence the world sonically – they also shaped fashion in myriad ways.

Although they started with slick hair and suits, they quickly embraced reinvention and made mop tops, collarless jackets, neon suits, and even facial hair fashionable. Not only did they sell records; they successfully set trends and became a worldwide cultural phenomenon.

So were they as adventurous when it came to their timepieces? Not quite. The guys were only ever spotted with select timepieces (and George was not even known to wear one), but they were as impressive as you’d expect. Here are The Beatles’ watches:

John Lennon

One of John Lennon’s most popular photos was taken by his wife Yoko Ono on his 40thbirthday. In it, he is showing off a Patek Philippe reference 2499 while smiling from ear to ear. It’s not confirmed whether he was gifted the watch, but he sure looked proud to be wearing no less than a rare Patek. Pictured here is a similar perpetual calendar Patek, with three subdials – a 30-minute register combined with leap year, date combined with moon-phases and 12-hour register with constant seconds. There are also apertures for day and month.

Ringo Starr

Ringo Starr, the drummer of The Beatles, is also often spotted with a Patek Philippe Aquanaut these days. Before this though, he used to be the owner of a very rare piece – a Patek Philippe ref 3448 in yellow gold. This model was the first automatic perpetual calendar that Patek Philippe released; only 586 were produced and it was discontinued in 1982. Starr’s watch was auctioned off in 2015 for a whopping $179,200.

Paul McCartney

Sir Paul McCartney isn’t a huge watch collector. On days when he’s spotted wearing a watch, he’s wearing a Patek Philippe Aquanaut reference 5167A. The watch comes with a rubber Patek Philippe strap, complete with a Calatrava-logoed deployant clasp. He loves the watch so much he is frequently photographed wearing it, and even wore in on his wedding day in 2011.
