Its full name was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swisswatchexpo.com\/watches\/tudor\/tudor-submariner\/\">Tudor Oyster Prince Submariner<\/a>. Tudor outsourced their Submariner\u2019s movement while Rolex created theirs in-house. Both were created for professional diving and high legibility in deep waters. To do this, Tudor took three key features from the Rolex Submariner &#8212; the screw-in crown that prevents the movement from being damaged by water,\u00a0 the screwed-down oyster caseback that hermetically seals the case, and a plexiglass crystal limiting water damage from the front.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Tudor and Rolex Submariners have undergone evolutions since their inception, although Rolex has incorporated more subtle changes than its Tudor counterpart.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">&lt;&gt;<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #006699;\">Evolution of the Rolex and Tudor Submariners<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Let\u2019s take a look at key changes for the Rolex Submariner and Tudor Submariner over the years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: justify;\"><strong>1959<\/strong> &#8211; This year was when the Rolex Submariner had its biggest change. They did away with the small 6mm and large 8mm crown sizes, opting for the Twinlock 7mm crown on reference 5512. Crown guards were also a welcome addition to this sizing change.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: justify;\"><strong>1969<\/strong> &#8211; The new reference 1680 Submariner Date was introduced, but there was still the ability to opt for a non-date. This incorporated the cyclops date magnifier.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: justify;\"><strong>Depth rating over time<\/strong> &#8211; The initial Rolex Submariner had a depth rating of 100 meters. In 1955, the reference 1955 came out with an impressive increased depth rating of 200 meters. In 1989, Rolex updated the watch by incorporating sapphire glass and a unidirectional bezel, which increased the Rolex Submariner\u2019s depth rating to 300 meters. The design on the dial also changed to a coat of arms from the signature Tudor rose.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: justify;\"><strong>1989<\/strong> &#8211; Incorporated the Tudor logo onto the metal Oyster bracelet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: justify;\"><strong>1999<\/strong> &#8211; The Tudor Submariner was discontinued.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: justify;\"><strong>Depth rating over time<\/strong> &#8211; Just like the Rolex Submariner, the first version of the Tudor Submariner was water-resistant to 100 meters.
