Introduced in Watches & Wonders 2021, the Palm Dial was a summer offering, but it’s here to stay. The tropical palm motif features a fun yet well executed design with laser-etched leaves across the brushed sunray finish dial. A palm motif would be green by default, but Rolex experimented with three stunning editions: a green dial for the steel and steel-white gold edition, a yellow dial for the steel-yellow gold version; and a subdued silver for the steel-Everose gold version.<\/p>\n

Rolex Datejust 36 Steel Rose Gold Silver Fluted Dial Mens Watch 126231<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Launched together with the Palm Dial, the fluted dial pays homage to one of Rolex’s hallmark designs – the fluted bezel. The uniform etching was done using the\u00a0same femtosecond laser technique used in eye surgery, which does not produce heat to cut into objects. The fluted dial edition was made available in three editions: a champagne version for the yellow Rolesor model; a silver edition for the Everose Rolesor model; and a blue edition for the white Rolesor model. In 2023, a green dial version was introduced for the steel and steel-white gold models.<\/p>\n

Introduced in 1985, the Rolex anniversary dial was meant to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Datejust collection (which also happens to be Rolex’s 80th anniversary).\u00a0The standout design features a repetitive ROLEX pattern monogrammed on the entire dial. BUCKLEY DIALS<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

This dial is most commonly found in Rolex Datejust models from the 1970s to 80s. Featuring printed Roman dials in a refined thin font, these give the Datejust heightened elegance and formality.\u00a0Buckley dials are named after John Buckley, a well-known Rolex collector, and\u00a0owner of\u00a0Tuscany Rose, a vintage watch store\u00a0based in New York City\u2019s Diamond District. It\u00a0was Buckley\u2019s avid support of these then not-so-popular\u00a0dials that led to his name being associated with it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

SIGMA DIALS<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n

The Sigma Dial can only be identified up close. The name Sigma\u00a0came from the lowercase Greek letter sigma (\u03c3) that is featured quite inconspicuously under the\u00a06 o\u2019clock marker. The letter appears on either side of the text \u201cT Swiss T,\u201d which is a marker used to\u00a0reference the use of tritium as luminescence. Sigma, on the other hand, indicates that the hands and indices are made of 18k gold. Back in the 1970s, it was common for watch companies to mark their dials, to indicate that it is\u00a0made of precious metals.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Like the Buckley dials, the Linen dials are also commonly seen in Rolex Datejust models from the 70s and 80s. Called such because of its\u00a0textile-like pattern, it features an\u00a0imperfect crosshatch engraving on the watch dial, its textured surface changing colors with each angle, just like guilloche dials. Like rays of the sun shining from the center of the dial, the Sunbeam pattern\u00a0adds radiance and interest to otherwise minimalist models. If the Sunbeam dial gives a dressier feel to the Rolex Datejust, the Concentric dial adds an edgy and sometimes playful touch.<\/p>\n

Concentric dials have\u00a0repetitive circular patterns that\u00a0add\u00a0interesting depth to the face of the watch. The Concentric pattern\u00a0can be a wide circle in the middle of the dial, or more ornate like a “bull’s eye” pattern at the center. The Decorated Mother of Pearl dials often seen in Lady Datejust models, up the ante with a criss-cross pattern on the mother of pearl’s surface.
