1. Always buy from a reputable dealer.<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Your best defense against buying a fake Omega is to get your watch from an established dealer. This will ensure that you only have genuine watches to choose from. Here are some qualities you should look for:<\/p>\n

3. Inspect the dial.<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

As sophisticated as some counterfeiters may be, they still make mistakes. Check for any errors on the watch, such as spelling and engraving mistakes, which are quick giveaways. When you inspect the dial, also be sure to check for the following:<\/p>\n

OMEGA LOGO<\/strong>\u00a0– check the design of your desired Omega watch. In some cases, the Omega logo is a piece of metal attached on the dial, in some cases it\u00a0is painted on the dial.<\/p>\n

LUME<\/strong>\u00a0– the hands and markers of Omega watches are equipped with reflective material for better legibility. Try inspecting the watch in the dark for about 15 minutes. A replica\u00a0may still have lume, but it will not be as bright as an original Omega watch.<\/p>\n

DATE COMPLICATION<\/strong> – This is one of the hardest elements to replicate because Omega watches use\u00a0different kinds of magnification. 4. Check the construction.<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Aside from the dial, Omega watches also have distinguishing features on the rest of the watch’s body; and counterfeiters usually do not replicate these extraneous features to save on production costs.<\/p>\n

SERIAL NUMBERS<\/strong>\u00a0– Each Omega watch has a seven or eight digit number that is unique to the watch. Check that it corresponds with\u00a0the serial numbers of the\u00a0exact model you desire. Check the placement as well — on vintage models, it is engraved on the inside of the case back, while modern models will have it engraved on the bottom of the lugs.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

CROWN\u00a0and HELIUM VALVE<\/strong>\u00a0– Divers watches, such as Omega Seamaster<\/a> divers or Planet Ocean<\/a> watches,\u00a0will have a helium valve on the side of the case that hits at 10 o’clock.\u00a0The crown position\u00a0of the watch should also match the one\u00a0on your desired model.<\/p>\n

CASE BACK<\/strong> – depending on the model, an Omega watch can have a transparent case back that shows the movement inside or a solid metal case back with an Omega emblem and some words engraved. 5. Check the functions.<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Omega watches are equipped with Swiss movements. This means that the seconds hand\u00a0moves in a smooth, fluid motion, instead of stuttering along. There should also be no ticking sound if the watch is powered by a mechanical movement.<\/p>\n

Lastly, try adjusting the time on the watch. When you pull up the crown to adjust the time, the seconds hand should stop together with the minute and hour hands, to\u00a0ensure\u00a0the accuracy of the time.
