A-Listers Love the Rolex Oyster Perpetual

Rolex Oyster Perpetual Green Dial 41mm 124300

The Oyster Perpetual is famous for being the entry point to the Rolex brand. With just the famous Oyster case and bracelet, a simple dial, and the self-winding Perpetual movement beating inside, it has everything that makes a Rolex a Rolex at a friendly price point.

It’s more of a staple than a cult favorite like the Daytona, Sub, or GMT-Master – until recently, that is. The new Stella-inspired, candy-colored versions have caught the eye of A-listers, making the OP the new “it” watch to own.

Take a look at the famous personalities we spotted with the colorful Rolex Oyster Perpetual:

Roger Federer

As a long-time Rolex ambassador, Roger gets his pick of the catalog, and we’ve seen him sport grail watches from the brand that collectors pine after from vintage Daytonas to classic Day-Dates and dressy Datejusts.

Among his latest acquisitions are the new generation of Oyster Perpetuals with vibrant watch faces. Released in 2020, these pieces hark back to Rolex Day-Dates from the ‘70s with the so-called “Stella” dials. The moniker pertains to the Swiss company responsible for supplying the lacquer, enamel, and pigments for these dials back in their prime.

In the 2021 Wimbledon tournament, we saw Roger rocking a 41mm OP model with steel construction and a green dial, Rolex’s signature hue. He also wore the sunflower yellow dial edition, which comes in the same case size and finish but with a black minute track instead of white. With their sleek profile and minimalist look, the timepieces go very well with the pro-golfer’s outstanding presence.

Lebron James

It’s not just Roger who’s caught the Oyster Perpetual fever. NBA superstar Lebron James also has two of these lacquered dial beauties. Given his towering height and brawny build, the generous proportions and the simple design of the OP 41mm are a great fit.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41 Turquoise Dial 124300

The LA Lakers forward prefers the ones with the coral red and turquoise blue dials, which are two of the rarest novelties of the new OP series. The 3, 6, and 9 o’clock hour markers have “double bars” giving them more presence on the wrist, while the blue Chromalight lume makes them readable even on the darkest nights and in low-light situations. Painted squares beside each hour marker add a playful touch.

Mark Wahlberg

American actor Mark Wahlberg also has a vast collection of Rolex watches and he’s usually among the first to cop new releases among watch-collecting celebrities. Just like Lebron, Mark is a fan of the turquoise blue version of the new OP 41. Also dubbed by fans as “Tiffany Blue,” the shade looks similar to the light, robin egg blue created by Tiffany & Co. in the 1930s.

While this model has no connection to the New York-based jeweler at all, and the almost identical dial color is purely coincidence, the iconic shade and nostalgia for co-signed Rolex and Tiffany watches from the past make it highly covetable.
