Rolex President Day-Date 36mm Yellow Gold Mens Watch 18038

Rolex President Day-Date (American Hustle, 2013 and Vice, 2018)

American Hustle is the fictionalized account of an FBI operation in the late 1970s, where a pair of con artists are forced to work with law enforcement. As seasoned swindler Irving Rosenfeld, Bale had to present himself as a man of good taste. True to the era, Bale wore a very expressive wardrobe with gold jewelry to match. The choice of an 18k yellow gold Rolex President Day-Date was perfect for the role.

In Vice, one of his latest films, Bale portrayed former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and he was totally unrecognizable. Aside from ballooning in weight, Bale of course had the make-up and wardrobe to match. Dick Cheney wore a yellow gold 36mm Rolex Day-Date in real life and was the first U.S. Vice President to do so. There was no better choice for the film! Video from Sony Pictures Entertainment and GQ on YouTube

On the red carpet, Bale is always dapper, often in a subtle all-black or black and blue ensemble. He chooses ultra-thin watches to match, it’s often hard to spot them as they stay under the cuff! When it comes to sport watches, his choice is still a Cartier. Bale wears the Cartier Calibre, the brand’s reinterpretation of the round sports watch. Robust and striking, the Calibre is made elegant by its signature Cartier design cues, such as the roman numerals and blue sapphire cabochon.

Aside from its good looks, the Calibre is also the first watch to be powered by the 1904 MC, Cartier’s first in-house chronograph movement, making it a landmark piece for the brand.

Bale played one of his most iconic roles in American Psycho, as narcissistic investment banker-turned-serial killer, Patrick Bateman. Based on a novel of the same title, the movie was controversial for its depictions of violence but was also critically acclaimed for its solid plot, and Bale’s performance. As many brands refused to be associated with the film, Bale’s character made no mention of Rolex; but wore a Rolesor steel and 18k yellow gold Rolex Datejust in many scenes. Video from Lionsgate on YouTube
