A massive, robust, and sleek watch such as a Panerai is the perfect fit for any action hero. With the brutal force and amount of combat he faces, a Panerai is certainly the best tool the protagonist can have in his arsenal.

Initially created as waterproof diving instruments for the Italian Navy during World War II, the watch brand went public in 1993, but with minimal success. Sylvester Stallone spotted a Luminor in Rome in 1995, and bought it on the spot. He wore it in his movie Daylight, and has since become its biggest brand advocate.

Today, the Panerai enjoys tons of screen time and is usually the timepiece of choice for action flicks. Here, we give you action stars who choose to wear Panerai:

Sylvester Stallone

As mentioned, the company can owe much of its success to that fateful encounter with Sylvester Stallone in Rome. Stallone continued to be a major player in the action movie scene, and he frequently wore Panerai watches – such as in 1995’s Daylight, followed by 2008’s Rambo IV and 2013’s The Expendables. This paved the way for its popularity in Hollywood and among other celebrities.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Arnold was one of the first to wear Panerai watches, and his history with the brand is intertwined with his friendship with Sylvester Stallone. Schwarzenegger was greatly influenced by Stallone. It began when Stallone commissioned a limited-edition version and gifted one to Schwarzenegger, which helped catch the attention of watch enthusiasts worldwide.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock, has successfully transitioned from being a professional wrestler to an action star. He began with supporting roles in the late 1990’s, and eventually got his first leading role in The Scorpion King (2002).He has worn a Panerai in several of his films such Fast and Furious Five (2011) and San Andreas (2015), favoring the Luminor Submersible model.

Jason Statham

Jason Statham is a known watch enthusiast, together with his wife, model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. He owns pieces from IWC, Patek Philippe and Rolex, but in his films, the Panerai are the most prominent ones.
