The Watches of John Legend

Singer-songwriter, actor, and producer John Legend is at his prime. Just two years after making history as the first black man, and one of the youngest to achieve EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony) status, he’s set to go on an extensive tour this summer.

With such a busy schedule, John keeps his style minimalist with pieces that let him jet-set around the world in comfort. To keep his ensembles far from boring, he embraces color and accessorizes with standout timepieces. Check out the watches we’ve spotted on John Legend, on and off-duty.

In his recent cover for Vanity Fair, John donned a Rolex Cellini Dual Time, which features a subdial at 6 o’clock to show the second time zone. The Dual Time is one of four models under the contemporary Rolex Cellini line, each having a curved 39mm case and a simple black lacquered dial, or an intricate guilloché dial with the ‘rayon flammé de la gloire’ motif.

In last year’s Grammys, John matched his gray suit with the ultra lavish Platinum Rolex Daytona ref 116576. In place of the Daytona’s tachymeter bezel are 36 baguette cut diamonds, while its dial is paved with 437 round diamonds, leaving just enough room for three registers and hour, minute, and seconds hands in ice blue.

In his recent shoot for Rollercoaster Magazine, John was sporting the latest Bond timepiece from Omega – the Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition. This piece takes us back to the Brosnan-era Seamaster, this time with a 42mm titanium case, tanned lume, and a mesh titanium bracelet. It sets itself apart from its Seamaster siblings, but in a very subtle way.

If there is one timepiece that John wears most often, it’s the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. In fact, it’s probably the only watch he wears when off-duty. We’ve spotted John with the 41mm rose gold blue dial model (above), another rose gold model with an alligator strap, and a solid yellow gold Royal Oak Chronograph.

Although his relationship with the brand has been low-key, John has actually collaborated with them on the John Legend Millenary Pianoforte – a musically themed watch in 18k white gold, with piano keys drawn on the dial. The limited edition timepiece has only 500 pieces available.

It’s striking Gerald Genta-designed case aside, what really makes the Bvlgari Octo unique is its very thin case. The Octo is home to one of the world’s thinnest automatic movements, and while it’s designs can be worn anywhere, it’s a favorite on the red carpet because it fits so well under the cuff.
