The Watches of Michael Strahan

Is there anything Michael Strahan can’t do? One of the greatest defensive ends to play in the NFL, he still holds the record for the most NFL single-season quarterback sacks. After retiring from professional football in 2007, Michael went on to become a media personality, even winning Emmys as a host for ABC’s Good Morning America.

Today, he owns an eponymous clothing and lifestyle brand and just launched his own skincare line. Through it all, Michael has been keeping time with Rolex watches – and one very special IWC timepiece. Check out the watches of Michael Strahan.

Rolex Daytona Steel Ceramic Bezel

Michael has one of the most coveted sports watches of all time – the stainless steel Rolex Daytona with a Cerachrom bezel (ref. 116500). This watch was introduced in 2016 and has a versatile monochromatic scheme that works for any ensemble.

The main attraction in this timepiece is the black Cerachrom bezel with an engraved tachymeter scale in silver. Prized for both its attractive qualities and resilience, the Cerachrom offers a glossy look and is impervious to fading and scratches. Today, the ref. 116500 remains very difficult to find at retail stores and sells quickly in the secondary market.

We’ve also spotted Michael with the cult-favorite 18k yellow gold Daytona – also known as the ‘John Mayer.’ Launched in 2016 at Baselworld, this watch went unnoticed among its stainless steel and Ceramic bezel siblings, until its appearance on the wrist of seasoned collector and famous musician John Mayer.

This intriguing take on the classic Daytona pairs the precious metal with a sunburst dial in ‘British Racing Green’– a shade never before seen on a Rolex watch. Echoing pine trees, the deep hue creates a stunning effect and offers a striking contrast against the polished and satin gold exteriors. The hint of red in the “Daytona” text and the inner rings of the chronograph counters reinforces the sporty luxe theme of the timepiece.

Rolex Sky-Dweller Blue

The ultimate choice of jet-setters, the Rolex Sky-Dweller combines a date display, a dual-time register, and an annual calendar in one timepiece. Sophisticated mechanics, protected by numerous patents, and a refined display make this a remarkable Rolex feat.

Michael went for the blue dial edition, introduced in 2017 as part of the more accessible steel and gold models. The dial not only complements the watch’s steel finish but is also in sync with prevailing sport watch trends as seen with the Nautilus and Royal Oak. Crisp baton indices with white gold surrounds provide more ease of reading, while the fluted Ring Command bezel and red accents add visual appeal to the timepiece.

Rolex Sea-Dweller Deepsea

Michael also owns the most capable diver in the Rolex catalog – the Sea-Dweller Deepsea. Introduced in 2008, it maintains a depth rating of up to 12,800 feet and is the extreme iteration of the already-impressive Sea-Dweller, which is water-resistant to 4,000 feet.

The host prefers the ref. 116660, which features a black timelapse ceramic bezel insert and a gradient Maxi blue dial. Thanks to its flat-link Oyster bracelet with a folding Oysterlock clasp, the watch sits well on the wrist and works as an excellent daily wearer. Michael pairs his Deepsea with suits, which is quite unexpected for such a bold model.

Speaking of blue watches, Michael also has a very special IWC Big Pilot in the versatile hue. In an interview, he stated that this is his most treasured watch because he and his son both own one.

Michael’s Big Pilot’s Watch measures about 46 millimeters and boasts a midnight dial, which has become the signature trait of IWC’s special editions in tribute to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s legacy. A special Little Prince engraving at the caseback lends interest, while lume-filled indices and hands help maintain clarity in low-light conditions.

Michael’s watch collection is representative of the many hats he wears. In 2021, he became one of the space travelers on Blue Origin’s New Shepard space flight. Michael reportedly brought three pounds of personal items with him including his grandfather’s pocket watch, a lucky $2 bill, and two luxury watches.

One of them is the Rolex GMT-Master II “Pepsi” ref. 126719BLRO – the first model from the series to include a meteorite dial. The Swiss brand uses only the best cuts of meteorite for the timepiece, all with distinct crystalline patterns resembling the Moon’s surface. Additionally, the watch combines white gold with a striking red and blue Cerachrom bezel.

Rolex GMT Master II Everose Gold

One of the hottest releases from recent years is the “Root Beer” bezel Rolex GMT Master II. With a gorgeous Everose finish and a two-tone bezel, it’s easy to see why so many Rolex collectors are eager to get their hands on this attractive watch.

The bezel is crafted from Cerachrom – a scratch and fade-resistant ceramic material usually used in Rolex sports timepieces. This is complemented by a black dial that makes the Everose gold-outlined hands and hour markers pop.
