Newest Rolex Dials That’ll Catch Your Fancy

Rolex is well known for timeless designs that slowly and subtly evolve through the years. If there’s one element where Rolex has been experimental – trendy even – it’s through their dials.

In recent years, they have added lush and vibrant dial designs that bring a sophisticated flair to their classic models. A number of them have been released quietly, so here’s a recap.

Rolex Datejust 41 Mint Green Dial

Green is no doubt Rolex’s signature color. We occasionally see new models from the brand that feature the vibrant color somewhere on the dial or bezel.

In 2022, we’re finally given a solid green dial in the Datejust 41 range, which Rolex has dubbed “mint green”. The new, sophisticated sunburst mint green dial is colorful but in a classy way. Instead of a light green that’s expected from its “mint green” moniker, we’re given an earthy, subtle tone.

This new green dial Datejust comes in two design options: a smooth bezel, Oystersteel edition (ref 126300), and a fluted bezel, White Rolesor version (ref 126334). Both watches also come in a fluted motif dial option, which was first unveiled in 2021.

The Oystersteel version comes with the choice of an Oyster or five-piece-link Jubilee bracelet, while the two White Rolesor versions are paired with Jubilee bracelet only

Rolex Day-Date 40 Lacquered Green and Onyx Dials

This year, Rolex also introduced new dials to the Day-Date 40 line – a magnificent green lacquered dial and a stunning black Onyx dial.

The green dial is not new to the Day-Date. We’ve already seen it on the Day-Date’s 60th-anniversary watch, but it was in a sunburst finish, not lacquered. This new dial looks like a throwback to the iconic “Stella” dials from the 1970s, which came in a variety of bright colors such as green, oxblood, pastel pink, and turquoise, all in a high gloss enamel finish.

The new Day-Date 40 ref. 228238 modernizes the lacquered dial with a sharper fluted bezel, and faceted yellow gold applied Roman numerals. The way Rolex did the X and the V is an especially nice detail.

Likewise, the black Onyx dial has been previously used in the Day-Date range. It appeared in the Day-Date 36 ref. 18038, where only the glossy black Onyx, Rolex signature, and non-luminous gold hands are present. This new edition enhances the high-contrast design with white baguette-cut diamond hour markers and faceted hour and minute hands.

Rolex Day-Date 36 and 40 Eisenkiesel Dial

Rolex is famous for using stone dials, and in mid-2021, the brand introduced its latest yet – the Eisenkiesel stone, which appears in the Day-Date 36 and 40 collections. Translating to ‘iron pebble’ in German, Eisenkiesel is a type of quartz that features yellow, red, orange, or brown hues with iron inclusions.

The Crown’s Eisenkiesel is dark brown with iron inclusions in a chocolatey brown color. The main sources for this unique stone are Germany, Namibia, Russia, and Spain but it has also been discovered in Cumbria, England.

Rolex selected the Eisenkiesel for the new Day-Date because of how beautifully it pairs with Everose gold – the brand’s exclusive 18-carat pink gold alloy, which is actually cast in their own foundry and was first introduced in 2005. They need to precisely choose each slice of quartz due to the nature of its veining, assuring flawless placement on the dial.

A fantastic creation, the Day-Date 36 Eisenkiesel comes with diamond-set applied Roman numerals, while the Day-Date 40 features baguette hour markers. Completing the look of both watches are polished bezels with brilliant-cut diamonds.
