4 Underrated Omega Watches for Your Attention

When one thinks of Omega, the first watches that come to mind are the Seamaster and the Speedmaster. After all, these two families of watches have put Omega in the annals of history – the Seamaster as an Olympic timekeeper, and the Speedmaster as the official watch of lunar missions.

The Omega landscape, however, offers a wide range of timepieces aside from their most famous diver and chronograph. From vintage-inspired models to modern dress watches, there are more Omega watch models for your picking. While they don’t always share the limelight with their more famous siblings, they can be counted on to perform when it matters most – and look stylish at the same time.

Let’s look at some underrated models from Omega that we think deserve more attention.

Omega Globemaster

While the Omega Globemaster is part of the Constellation family, its retro ’60s style sets it apart. This series is distinguished by a “pie-pan” dial, which mimics the namesake bakeware, and a fluted bezel

There is a wide variety of metals and colorways offered in the Globemaster collection. The watches are crafted in full stainless steel, yellow gold, and Sedna gold; as well as two-tone finishes combining stainless steel with yellow or Sedna gold. Dial colors in opaline silver, sun-brushed blue, green, grey, burgundy, and Sedna gold complement the metals, as do the leather straps in the same set of colors.

But the Globemaster is not all looks – it houses the brand’s most advanced mechanical movement, and was the world’s first watch to receive certification as a Master Chronometer certification, meaning it’s not only extremely accurate but also anti-magnetic to 15,000 gauss.

Omega Constellation

The Omega Constellation is one of the oldest series in Omega’s portfolio. It exemplifies the Swiss brand’s long record of creating accurate timepieces and remains a symbol of elegance to this day.

This watch, with its integrated bracelet, was first introduced in 1952 and was redesigned in the 1980s to bear a much sportier look. The claws at 3 and 9 o’clock resemble little grips and have been the watch’s most conspicuous characteristics since 1982, copied from the Constellation Manhattan – a watch that was designed for women by Carol Didisheim.

The Omega Constellation collection is quite extensive. It includes everything from 24mm stainless steel women’s watches, to medium-sized two-tone models and 38mm gold pieces with diamonds.

In 2020, the Constellation was redesigned to meet modern tastes. Men’s versions now have 41mm case diameters, a single star above 6 o’clock, and Master Chronometer-certified movements inside, while ladies’ pieces have a smaller appearance, thinner Roman numerals, and compact and immaculate diamond setting.

Omega Chronoscope

The Omega Chronoscope is a Speedmaster unlike any other. Introduced in 2021, it features three different chronograph scales. Inspired by the brand’s chronograph wristwatches from 1940, the intricate dial design distinguishes this timepiece from the rest of the legendary Speedmaster family.

Harkening back to Omega’s beginnings, the leaf-shaped hands and three snail-type timing scales on the dial provide the Chronoscope an undeniable connection to the watchmaking designs during the 1940s. Under the Arabic numerals, there is a classy addition of a “spiral” track design.

Its outside bezel features a traditional Speedmaster tachymeter scale that displays speed based on distance, with measurements for units ranging from 450 per hour to 60 per hour. On the innermost scale is a telemeter, which is used to determine how far away an event is. Finally, a pulsometer scale displays the number of pulses per minute.

There were six stainless steel variants available at launch: two with blue dials and rhodium-plated hands, two with silver dials, black counters, and black hands, and two with silver dials and blue-colored hands. This was followed by an additional model in the brand’s proprietary Bronze Gold. Powered by the METAS-certified Calibre 9908, the Chronoscope is the ultimate tribute to Omega’s history of chronograph design.

Omega De Ville

Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, the moniker “De Ville” adorned the dials of numerous classic Omegas, implying a decidedly American spirit. Today’s De Villes are the most opulent offerings of the brand, with many models crossing over from the dress watch category into haute horlogerie. Among the series’ treasures are in-house calibers with tourbillons, as well as several luxurious, diamond-studded women’s watches.

There are four sub-categories within the Omega De Ville family. First is the Ladymatic, originally launched in 1955, and was later reintroduced in the 2000s. While these models resemble their predecessors, their technology is anything but vintage. Unlike other manufacturers, Omega has chosen ultramodern Co-Axial calibers with silicon balance springs for this watch, rather than quartz calibers.

Next is the Prestige, which was introduced in 1994 and has been a symbol of classical design. This minimalist line is updated for its Third Generation introduction with a smaller profile, Master Chronometer certification for mechanical models, and a vivid selection of dial colors and pattern finishes to suit varied personalities.

There’s also the Trésor, which is defined by sleeker cases, precious metals, and diamonds and generally consists of watches best matched to black ties and evening gowns. There is a vast range of sizes available in this collection, from the 26mm Mini Tresor and 36mm women’s models, to the 40mm De Ville Trésor Small Seconds and the De Ville Trésor Power Reserve.

Lastly, we have the Hour Vision line, which boasts an Art-Deco flair. Most models under this line have a sapphire caseback that provides a rare view of the Co-Axial movement. Blue, brown, bronze, and silvered dials make these superb everyday accessories or a distinctive touch for formal occasions. What’s more, they are also available in an equally elegant annual calendar version.

As beautifully-made and high-performing as the more popular offerings of Omega, these timepieces are perfect for discerning collectors who don’t always make the most obvious choice. Explore our collection of Omega watches SwissWatchExpo.com.
