Austin Butler And His Cartier Watches

Cartier Tank Must Large Steel Blue and Green Dial Watches

Austin Butler has been in the industry for almost two decades, beginning his career as a Disney Channel and Nickelodeon star. His star has shone more brightly in recent years, thanks to his sterling portrayal of the King of Rock in Baz Lurhmann’s Elvis – and his impressive personal style. The multi-awarded actor was recently named the face of the Cartier Tank Must, which he has on rotation with several other icons from Cartier. Check out the Cartier watches of Austin Butler.

Austin made several red carpet appearances in 2022 to promote his biographical movie Elvis, where he plays the lead role as Elvis Presley. For the film’s London screening, we spotted the American actor with the quintessential Cartier watch: the Tank Louis. It was introduced in the late 1910s and has set the precedent for all subsequent Cartier Tank designs.

Evoking an Art Deco look, Austin’s choice model comes in yellow gold and features a white rectangular dial with painted black Roman numerals and blued steel hands. Its rounded brancards seamlessly integrate the brown leather strap and make for a sleek fit on the wrist. Photo from Getty Images Entertainment on Twitter

Austin Butler was also officially signed as a Cartier brand ambassador in 2022 and ever since his appointment, he is almost always sporting a fine watch from the French maison. One of the more interesting pieces we’ve spotted him with is the Tank Louis Cartier with a red opaline face.

This iteration was designed to bring a new and modern look to the existing Tank concept from the 1920s. It is specifically defined by a large yellow gold case measuring 33.7mm x 25.5mm and a dual-color sector-style watch face that is outlined in red with sword-shaped hands and gold hour markers placed on another thicker red box.

Cartier Tank Must Steel Black Dial

Austin owns another exceptional Cartier timepiece that is hard to miss even from afar: the Tank Must ref WSTA0072 with an all-black dial. This timepiece was originally introduced as a limited edition in 2021 to celebrate the reopening of the Geneva Cartier boutique but was later released as a regular production watch in 2022.

Like the previous model, this watch measures 33.7mm x 25.5mm but is fashioned in stainless steel. Its key feature is the unfussy deep black dial with the “Cartier” at 12 o ‘clock and “Swiss Made” at 6 o’clock serving as the only elements. One of the more accessible Tanks in the market today, the watch also runs on a quartz movement that will last 8 years and is available with green, burgundy, and blue dial options, all of which are available at SwissWatchExpo. For his most recent SAG Awards red carpet appearance, Austin wore another relatively simple but elegant Cartier watch – the 2022 Tank Louis Cartier. This model is similar to the previous timepiece in terms of style but with a slightly longer case made of solid yellow gold.

It also has a black dial that shows only two yellow gold hands, the Cartier signature, and the words “Swiss Made” at the bottom and is powered by a hand-wound Caliber 1917 MC, which offers a 38-hour power reserve. Sitting at the intersection between fine watchmaking and art, this watch is the perfect companion to black-tie events. Photos from Cartier and Film Updates on Twitter

Cartier Vintage Tank Cintrée

A big fan of the rectangular design of the Cartier Tank, Austin also keeps a vintage Tank Cintrée in his watch box. This piece was released in 1921 and marked the first time that the French maison elongated the case of the Tank, and also crafted it into a curved shape in order to hug the wrist.

The actor’s choice model has a silver dial with stretched-out Roman numerals and Breguet-style hands. A Chemin de Fer railtrack at the center was curved at the top and bottom to echo the watch’s curvy shape. Photos from Sotheby’s and GQ Magazine on Twitter
