Iconic Green Watches on Stars

In a sea of endless black and blue watches, a green watch is a strong statement – one that shows you’re not afraid to take the road less traveled. With an endless array of tones available, green watches can also evoke a wide range of moods, from the bright energy of summer, to the power and success associated with money. No wonder the watch world is obsessed with the striking hue. Want to wear the color of the moment? Take your cue from these Hollywood and sports A-Listers:

Tom Hanks

First on our list is the Rolex Submariner ref 116610LV, also known as “Hulk”, which debuted at Baselworld 2010. The brand’s faithfuls named it as such as it boasts a striking green-on-green look and a heftier case silhouette. Tom Hanks, a recognized Rolex aficionado with a timeless watch collection, is a fan of this colorful but practical wristgear.

Measuring 40mm, the ref 116610LV also has a Super Case, characterized by broader lugs and larger crown guards, and is notable for being the first Sub to feature a green dial. Rather than the aluminum inlay of preceding models, the Hulk’s bezel is crafted from Rolex’s proprietary Cerachrom material, while its big lume plots and wide hands are filled with Chromalight that glows blue in the dark.

The ref 116610LV was discontinued in 2020 and replaced with the ref 126610LV, which reintroduces the Kermit’s green bezel-black dial combination, but the Hulk remains a grail watch for many collectors. Photo from Rita Wilson on Instagram. 

Tom Holland

For the Paris press tour of his 2022 film Uncharted, English actor Tom Holland chose to wear the “Kermit” – one of the popular versions of the Submariner. The original edition (ref 16610LV) was discontinued in 2010, only to come back in 2020 with a few notable upgrades.

The latest Kermit, famously known as the “Starbucks” or “Cermit” among watch collectors, boasts the same steel finish and green and black colorway but with an increased 41mm case size, a slimmer profile, thinner lugs, and a sleek bezel made of Cerachrom. Shawn Mendes

Canadian musician Shawn Mendes was recently spotted vacationing in Ibiza wearing a Patek Philippe Aquanaut ref 5186G with a matching pair of khaki swim trunks  – possibly the best combination of horology and color for a scorching day in the sun.

Released in 2019, Shawn’s choice Aquanaut is fashioned in white gold, spruced up with a cool khaki-green dial and an embossed tropical rubber strap in the same hue. The watch also boasts a slim case height of 8.25mm and a diameter of 42.2mm, making it one of the largest models in the Aquanaut family. Lebron James

All-time NBA leading scorer Lebron James wears the most prestigious model of the brand – the Rolex President Day-Date – and a superbly elegant model at that. At the first game of the Leagues Cup 2023, the basketball star was seen supporting the Inter Miami team led by Lionel Messi with the rose gold ref 228235 on his wrist.

Roger Federer

As a long-time ambassador for the Crown, Roger definitely has access to Rolex’s wide variety of watches. We’ve seen him sport pieces from the brand that collectors pine after - from vintage Daytonas to the modern generation of Submariners and the all-new Perpetual 1908. 

Adding to the list of his latest acquisitions is the Oyster Perpetual ref 124300 with steel construction, an increased 41mm case size, and a vibrant green dial with double baton markers on the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock. This watch came out in 2020 and recalls the Day-Dates from the ‘70s with the lacquered “Stella” dials. Roger wore the green-dialed ref 124300 during his last Wimbledon play in 2021. Ryan Reynolds

Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds pulled out some sharp style moves during the 2022 Met Gala by teaming his Ralph Lauren velvet burgundy peak lapel tuxedo with the Speedmaster MoonWatch in 18-karat Moonshine gold – Omega’s proprietary alloy that uses a mix of gold, silver, copper, and palladium.

This iteration of the iconic chronograph debuted in 2019 and was inspired by the 4th generation Speedmaster.
