Classic Watches at the 2024 Met Gala

The cutting-edge world of fashion, entertainment, and music converged at the recently concluded Met Gala, where avant-garde ensembles took center stage alongside timeless watches. Donald Glover – Cartier Roadster Two-Tone

Donald Glover opted for a well-tailored brown suit for this year’s Met Gala – quite a departure from his usual statement-making outfits. Nonetheless, he incorporated his personal style into his accessories, including his watch. What Donald wore on his wrist was Cartier’s signature automotive-inspired timepiece – the Roadster.

This piece stands out with its protruding crown and its two-tone tonneau-shaped case that recalls the curves of vintage cars. The rest of the watch is unmistakably Cartier: the silver dial has black Roman numerals and the hidden brand insignia while the caseback is engraved with the Cartier signature. Brooklyn Beckham – Piaget Polo

Brooklyn Beckham also took the minimalist yet edgy route for his attire at the 2024 Met Gala. He arrived at the event dressed in a custom cream-colored Dior suit and combined it with one of Piaget’s most recent offerings, the Polo 79.

The watch, released in 2024, pays homage to the original Polo from 1979. It boasts the same yellow gold body and integrated bracelet but with larger dimensions and an impressively slim movement. Other notable traits include a multi-part casing with a slotted flank allowing for the polished gadroons and a yellow gold dial with pearl-like etched dots and large hands. Colman Domingo – IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Obsidian Dial

Colman Domingo always impresses with his mastery of deliberate dressing and this year’s Met Gala was no different. The American actor wore a Willy Chavarria double-breasted suit and accessorized with an IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar in the brand’s proprietary Armor gold.

Unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2024, Colman’s Portugieser also features an Obsidian black dial with intricately milled sub-dials and applied indices. At 44.4mm thick, it wears fairly flat thanks to its slimmer middle band, while its calendar automatically adapts for different months and inserts a leap day every four years. Dwyane Wade – Cartier Santos Diamond

Dwyane Wade demonstrated not only his pioneering fashion sense that night but also his excellent wrist game. The red carpet regular wore a lapel-less purple suit, which he paired with a Cartier Santos in rose gold.

Dwyane’s Santos, the ref WJSA0012, measures 35.1mm with a thickness of 8.83mm. Its silver dial is satin-brushed and has Cartier’s signature design elements, while its bezel is accented with brilliant-cut diamonds. Serena Williams – Audemars Piguet Sand Gold Royal Oak Flying Tourbillon Openworked

Serena Williams undoubtedly made headlines at the 2024 Met Gala for her gilded Balenciaga ensemble topped off with an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Flying Tourbillon. One of the brand’s latest styles, the watch on the retired athlete’s wrist is crafted from AP’s proprietary 18k gold alloy named “Sand Gold”. This material fuses solid gold with copper and palladium and offers a subtle color, wavering between white and pink gold. Barry Keoghan – Omega De Ville Prestige

Barry Keoghan has an impressive watch collection that includes timeless pieces from Vacheron Constantin, IWC, and Cartier. However, the Irish actor has a special affinity for one watch brand in particular: Omega. We’ve seen him wear Omega watches at some of Hollywood’s biggest events, and he continued the tradition by teaming his Mad Hatter-inspired Met Gala outfit with a De Ville Prestige in yellow gold.

A symbol of refined elegance, Barry’s De Ville Prestige has a gold-toned face with alternating Roman numerals and diamond indices. Its bezel is fully-blinged while the dotted minute track on the outer rim adds interest. Jon Batiste – Cartier Tank Normale

Jon Batiste also dazzled at the Met Gala in an exquisite attire that featured a yellow floral waistcoat and a complementing Cartier Tank Normale. The “Butterfly” vocalist wears the ref WGTA0110 from 2023, one of four limited-edition Tank Normale models that honor the 1917 original. Its key features include a larger yellow gold body, a 7-row metal bracelet, and a satin-finished dial with Cartier’s hallmark traits.
