What Clients Say About Our Rolex Sell / Trade Program

Five Stars Icon Barry Costanza

Transaction was smooth by today's standards whereas everything usually has a catch. Not this time! My trade in was fairly priced and the Rolex GMT purchased was delivered as described. Great service!

Five Stars Icon Kevin Andrew James

I’ll never buy a watch from another business! I’ve had nothing but extremely helpful customer service from the beginning of a purchase to the end, and even later with a trade in! Swiss Watch Expo has the best prices, selection, and payment options. I purchased a watch from them, found out I wanted to trade into a different one, and they helped make that possible. Thanks for going above and beyond to make sure your customers are satisfied; you have a customer for life with me!

Five Stars Icon Rudolf Rossmy

Had a great experience with Michael and Mathew. Michael helped me twice, first, with a trade of one Rolex for another, and then a second time, when I returned that watch for an upgrade to my present Rolex GMT Master. One cannot go wrong dealing with SWE!

Five Stars Icon Konstantin

I found out about Swiss Watch Expo through a friend that has bought many watches from them and so glad that I did! I traded in a Jaeger Lecoultre Master Compressor and bought an unworn Rolex Yachtmaster II 116681 watch. The whole process couldn’t have been smoother, and I will be coming back for future watch purchases and recommending them to all my friends. Thank you so much for the beautiful watch, guys!

Five Stars Icon Michael Elliott

My trade and purchase with SWE have been extremely positive. They gave me a fair price for the watch I traded (IWC) and a very competitive price on the purchase (Rolex). I interacted primarily with Michael and appreciated his professional demeanor and honesty throughout the process. I have already recommended SWE to others and will utilize them first on my next purchase. Thank you!

Five Stars Icon Alice Bauman

I received tremendously helpful and timely assistance from Michael and Victoria at Swiss Watch Expo, while deciding which model to choose among several different Rolex watches. Michael talked with me over the phone about watches I currently have and trading them in or selling them, and Victoria took time out of her very busy day to model different watches I was choosing between and to text me photos of them on her wrist. They made relatively generous offers to trade or sell watches I currently own. The entire experience was great! Their purchase prices are very reasonable also, compared to some other sites, and they have a very wide selection to choose from! I would not hesitate to work with them again on purchasing, selling or swapping watches.

Five Stars Icon James K.

Michael C worked with me through a trade-in and purchase process. He was very helpful and responsive to emails. Trade-In value was very competitive, and the purchased watch was exactly how it was described. The entire transaction was very smooth and satisfactory. From the time I shipped out the trade-in watch to when I received the purchased watch was exactly one week. I would definitely purchase again from Swiss Watch Expo and specifically, request to work with Michael C. Highly recommended!!!

Five Stars Icon MM B

Very satisfied with my purchase, item exactly as described. Blake was extremely helpful throughout the purchase process (trade, selection, payment, shipping). Highly recommend Swiss Watch Expo!

Five Stars Icon Todd Smith

Accurate descriptions, fair trade value, fast shipping, strong communication, and excellent customer service. I'd purchase from SwissWatchExpo again.

Five Stars Icon Rick Caron

Great place to deal with, have bought 2 watches, traded one. Honest, beautiful examples of fine watches, better than described.

Five Stars Icon Alice B.

With Swiss Watch Expo, I have found an online and telephone shopping experience that ticks off all the boxes: reliable, transparent, highest quality, expertise, great value. I have now purchased two beautiful Rolex Datejust from SWE and have sold and traded in other watches with them. Each time I was given a fair deal. My two purchases were received quickly and in “like new” condition having received in-house expert maintenance prior to sending them to me. I've dealt mostly with Michael, by telephone and email and with Crede by email, phone and FaceTime. It's all been good. I'm a very happy customer. In addition, I will remain in touch with them for all info and maintenance needed for these watches. It's wonderful and easy.

Five Stars Icon Anita Conklin

My first purchase through SWE and it went seamlessly. Mr. Cash was extremely helpful guiding me through a trade-in as well as the purchase. I absolutely love my Pearlmaster! Thank you so much.

Five Stars Icon Robert Younger

Had a really great experience with SwissWatchExpo, the sales staff helped me out a ton. Michael was on top of getting my trade watches evaluated and gave a great price for them. I was able to pick up a watch that I look forward to wearing daily.

Five Stars Icon Linda Landwirth

I had a wonderful experience working with Mitch Ingram at Swiss Watch Expo. He was so patient, knowledgeable and professional. I traded in an old Rolex watch that I had not worn in years and felt my asking price was fair and Mitch agreed. I had been wanting a Rolex Men’s President Watch for sooo long and I finally took the plunge, but still felt the price was good for a “mint” condition watch. It arrived quickly, in exactly the condition as promised. I took it to my local Rolex dealer to have a link removed and they said it was “a beautiful piece” of jewelry. I am soooo happy with my purchase! I would highly recommend Swiss Watch Expo to purchase your high quality luxury watch.

Five Stars Icon Francois R.

Great service from everyone I talked to there (like 5 different people). Watch came in on time as described. I would buy again with confidence. My trade in was priced fair and payment came back quickly.

Five Stars Icon Jeff Chertow

I Purchase a Cartier Ballon Bleu XL that I have had my eye on for quite some time. Michael Cash made the process so easy and smooth. I even received a fair trade value for my Panerai. Will always buy from SwissWatchExpo!

Five Stars Icon Robin Anderson

Superb service, very trustworthy. I traded in a Rolex and bought a Patek Philippe. I got top dollar for the Rolex and a good price on the Patek. They were helpful, very responsive -definitely recommend.

Five Stars Icon Jun P.

I traded in my Seamaster pro 300 and bought 2200.50.00. They were very professional, the process was flawless and most importantly, they were personal. I have contacted about 7 watch dealers in the US, and they were the only ones who made me feel like they care. Last but not least, they offered the best price for my watch as well. I truly recommend Swiss Watch Expo if you want to sell, buy or trade in the watch!

Five Stars Icon Scotty East

Very professional and businesslike transaction and transparent pricing. I live locally and let my salesperson, Mitch Ingam knew which watches I was interested in seeing. Very safe and secure environment.....traded in a Rolex GMT II and ended up leaving with a beautiful Panerai. The selection of watches is unsurpassed, and the service was top shelf. I would recommend taking a close look at the Swiss Watch Expo and giving Mitch a call if you have interest in acquiring a high-end timepiece.

Five Stars Icon Zain S.

Super professional and patient. I took a long time to make a decision regarding a trade-in, and the employees at SWE were supportive, kind, and honest. I highly recommend!

Five Stars Icon Nicky 5

Mitch my salesman was a perfect gentleman and honored our agreement for a trade. I bought my wife a Rolex President and the piece was as described. Excellent. It was also keeping great time. I will definitely be buying from SwissWatchExpo in future. Top class dealer.

Five Stars Icon Julio Pujols

I was looking for a Panerai Submersible and came across this Swiss Watch Expo. I did some research and viewed some of their very good informational videos on YouTube. The videos were so helpful that I proceeded to place the call. At this I already knew what I wanted to purchase and one of my watches I was going to trade in. I spoke to Mitch, and he walked me through the process. I was impressed and very happy with my results. I highly recommend the Swiss Watch Expo as a place to buy the Watch you're looking for.

Five Stars Icon Matthew Carr

Great service from Grant and the rest of the sales team. I ended up trading a personal piece for another listed on their website. The transaction was seamless, and I would be happy to recommend their services to anyone interested in the luxury watch market.

Five Stars Icon Charity Dabrowski

Grant made the sale/trade process super quick and easy. Swiss Watch Expo has a fabulous selection and shipping was fast. Definitely recommend.

Five Stars Icon Pablo Cabrera & Associates, Attorneys at Law

Great company. The trade-in values were fair and the watch that I bought was perfect. Just as described, the staff was great at communicating the different options, and the transaction was conducted very smoothly.

Five Stars Icon Michael Redpath

I finally made the purchase of the Rolex Submariner I have wanted for a long time. I traded in my Datejust and the process couldn’t be easier. I worked with Michael who kept me informed and was always good with communication. I couldn’t be more pleased with this transaction and plan on shopping with SWE in the future.

Five Stars Icon Brad Freund

I traded in two watches for an unworn Rolex. Trade-in watches were priced at the market. Unworn watch traded at AD price. Service was knowledgeable, attentive, and responsive. I asked for wrist shots. Got them in 10 minutes. The transaction was fair, the product was as advertised, and the trade in process was haggle free, easy, efficient, and transparent. This is a great place to do business. The watch I purchased? Lovin’ it. I can’t say enough good things about SWE. I got a fair deal for an exceptional watch.

Five Stars Icon Henry Ostman

Michael was informative, forthright, educational and low pressure. He never pushed me into something but gave me information as I needed it to help me along. Multiple calls and emails returned to my satisfaction. I did a trade in and purchase over a 10 day timespan. Highly recommend.

Five Stars Icon Joe Broyles

Yes, I would definitely recommend SWE!! I traded two Rolexes for a Patek Philippe and IWC watches. Love the two Watches I got!! They are running very well.

Five Stars Icon Paul Crump

I am very pleased with the process of selling my Panerai and buying a limited edition Speedmaster. Will definitely purchase again from SwissWatchExpo.

Five Stars Icon Stephen Harris

Very professional sales team. Blake was thorough and especially helpful. I would whole heartedly recommend SwissWatchExpo for selling or purchasing a watch.

Five Stars Icon John Jasin

I have had a gold Rolex that I bought for my 50th birthday. I have worn it for many years, and it was always a fine watch. I have had it serviced by Rolex. When I retired and moved to a small town, the gold Rolex was no longer a requirement in my life, so I put it BACK IN THE ORIGINAL BOX THAT IT CAME IN AND PUT IT AWAY. Now over the years, gold has increased in price and the worth of my gold Rolex has increased in value. I thought about selling my Rolex but never pursued the act. One morning, SwissWatchExpo sent me an e mail asking if I had any high end watches I'd like to sell. The timing and opportunity was all I needed. I worked with a salesman by the name of Mike. He was courteous and helpful, and I sold my Rolex to them for what I considered to be a fair price and I bought another Rolex a little more in keeping with my present living activities. I was most pleased with the service I received from SWE, and I am most happy with my Rolex.

Five Stars Icon Ute L.

I bought two Rolex from these guys, online. Customer Service is great, and the shipping is fast. You do need to be home to sign for the package, something to be aware of. Their prices are very reasonable, usually several $100 below what other watch resellers are charging. The watches are properly inspected and in “like new” condition. They gave me a fair price for my trade-in as well. I had it appraised by two places, and SWE came in right in the middle. Look nowhere else for high end watches.

Understanding the Value of Your Rolex

Selling your watch is an important transaction and we want to help you do it right. The first step in selling your pre-owned Rolex watch is understanding what it is truly worth. It’s important to realize this isn’t one fixed number. A Rolex's value is dynamic and depends on valuable information and several key factors. Knowing these will help you set a realistic price and recognize a fair offer when you receive it.

While the Rolex brand itself ensures a high standard of value, the final purchase price comes down to a specific set of characteristics. Serious buyers will scrutinize these details closely when determining what they are willing to pay.

Rolex Model Number

The single most important factor in a Rolex's value is its model and its specific reference number, or model number. The model dictates the watch's fundamental identity— a men’s Rolex Submariner, Daytona, GMT-Master II, Datejust, or Day-Date. Within these families, the reference or model number provides a more granular classification, detailing the era of production, materials used (e.g., Oystersteel, Rolesor, 18k gold, white gold, platinum), bezel type (e.g., stainless steel, platinum, gold, or Cerachrom), and specific movement.

For example, a vintage Submariner Ref. 5513 holds a different market position and value proposition than a modern Submariner Ref. 126610LN. Moreover, professional models like the Submariner, Daytona, and GMT-Master II are in high demand and often command higher resale values due to intense market demand and limited supply at the retail level.

For more information on how to determine your watch’s model or reference number, here’s our guide to Rolex Serial and Model Numbers.

Age and Rarity

The age of a Rolex influences its value in a complex manner. While newer models benefit from modern materials and technology, vintage pieces (typically those over 25-30 years old) can command higher prices due to their rarity. Certain reference numbers were produced for very short periods, or with unique dial variations that were quickly discontinued, making them exceptionally rare. A "Paul Newman" Daytona, for example, is distinguished by its exotic dial configuration and is one of the most sought-after vintage watches in the world. Conversely, a more common Datejust model from the 1980s, while still valuable, will be priced lower due to its availability.

Condition (Mint, Excellent, Good, Fair)

The physical condition of a timepiece is a critical factor in determining its resale price, as both dealers and collectors consider this factor to assess its state. This evaluation scrutinizes signs of wear and tear, such as scratches, dents, and the degree of stretch in the bracelet, with better-preserved watches commanding higher values.

While there isn't a single, universally recognized standardized way to assess a watch's condition, there are established criteria and practices used by professionals and collectors. These criteria generally focus on evaluating the watch's physical appearance and its mechanical performance.

A watch in "Mint" or "Excellent" condition, showing minimal to no signs of use, will command a higher price than one graded as "Good" or "Fair". The assessment of condition also includes the originality of its components; a watch that retains its original parts including dial, hands, and bezel is more desirable and valuable than one that has been modified with aftermarket parts or service parts. Ultimately, a timepiece that reflects a history of careful ownership through its superior condition will always achieve a more favorable price on the secondary market.

At SwissWatchExpo, we believe in complete transparency so you can buy with total confidence. A critical part of this is our rigorous and standardized grading system. Every timepiece in our collection is carefully inspected and graded by our in-house experts, ensuring you know the precise condition of the watch you are purchasing.

All pre-owned Rolex watches sold by SwissWatchExpo fall into one of the following categories:

  • Unworn: As the name implies, these watches are in pristine condition and have never been worn. They are often equivalent to what you would find in a factory showroom and may still have their original protective stickers attached.
  • Mint: A watch in Mint condition is virtually “like new”, with no signs of wear visible to the naked eye. It represents a timepiece that has been preserved in impeccable, gift-worthy condition.
  • Excellent: A watch in Excellent condition shows only the faintest signs of having been worn. While there might be very minor hairline scratches on the case or clasp, it is evident the watch was used carefully and infrequently. Importantly, the case retains its sharp, original factory lines and bevels.
  • Great Vintage Condition: This special category is for older, collectible timepieces that have been remarkably well-preserved for their age. A watch in Great Vintage Condition will show honest signs of its history—which can include a desirable, naturally-aged patina on the dial—but will be free of any significant damage and in outstanding shape for a vintage piece.

A key consideration for vintage pieces is the concept of "patina." On older watches, the luminous material on the dial and hands can age and change color, often to a creamy or yellowish hue. This is a highly desirable trait for many collectors and can significantly increase a vintage watch's value, provided it is natural and even.

Originality of Parts (Dial, Hands, Bezel)

For a collector, originality is paramount. A Rolex that retains all its original parts and original paperwork is substantially more valuable than one that has had its key components replaced with service or aftermarket parts. The dial, hands, and bezel are of particular importance. A "service dial," installed by Rolex during maintenance, while genuine, can diminish the value of a vintage piece because it is not original to the watch's production era. Aftermarket parts—those not produced by Rolex—will drastically reduce the watch's value and may even call its authenticity into question.

SwissWatchExpo will certify a timepiece as Authentic based on the following conditions:

  1. Critical Components such as the Case, Case Back, Dial, Movement and Movement Plate are genuine and were produced by the original watch manufacturer;
  2. Other Components such as Crowns, Hands, Bezels, Push-Pieces, Bracelets, and Straps that are subject to wear-and-tear may have been replaced over time (especially for vintage watches) but this is limited to no more than two components per watch and the replacements will be genuine parts produced by the original watch manufacturer; and
  3. Especially in the case of vintage watches, items such as Movement Components (e.g., screws, wheels, springs, seals) and Crystals may be aftermarket and certified as long as they do not bear a trademark or logo.

SwissWatchExpo will not certify as authentic any watches that have been customized or any watches with fake or counterfeit parts.

Presence of Original Box and Papers

The term "full set" refers to a Rolex sold with its original box, warranty card or papers, manuals, and sometimes even the original sales receipt and hang tags. The presence of these accessories significantly increases the watch's value for two primary reasons.

First, they serve as crucial evidence of the watch's authenticity and provenance—its history. Second, collectors place a high premium on completeness. A watch without its original box and papers can still be sold, but it will face greater scrutiny and will almost always command a lower price. The original warranty papers, which include the watch's serial number and the original date and place of sale, can have a significant influence on the value of a timepiece.

How to Assess Your Rolex Watch

  • Determine the Model and Serial Number: The model reference number is traditionally engraved between the lugs (the horns that hold the bracelet) at the 12 o'clock position. The unique serial number is engraved between the lugs at the 6 o'clock position. On modern Rolexes (since the late 2000s), the serial number is also engraved on the inner bezel ring, known as the "rehaut." You will need to carefully remove the bracelet to see the engravings on older models.
  • Assess the Condition: Look for scratches, dents, and bracelet stretch (the degree of sag when the watch is held horizontally). Identify if parts like the dial or bezel appear newer or different in color from the rest of the watch, which could indicate replacement.
  • Recognize Modifications: Aftermarket modifications, such as custom-set diamonds or non-original bezels, generally decrease the value of a Rolex to collectors and reputable dealers.

Preparing To Successfully Sell Your Rolex

Once you have a comprehensive understanding of your watch's characteristics and its best value possible, the next phase involves preparing it for presentation to buyers. This stage is not merely about aesthetics; it is about marshalling all the elements that build trust and justify your asking price.

Cleaning and Maintenance: What You Should (and Shouldn't) Do

A clean watch is more attractive and suggests it has been well-cared for. However, improper cleaning can cause irreparable damage.

What You Should Do:

  • For modern, water-resistant Oyster models, you can safely clean the watch using lukewarm water, a small amount of mild soap (like dish soap), and a very soft-bristled brush (a soft toothbrush is ideal).
  • Ensure the screw-down crown is fully tightened against the case to maintain water resistance.
  • Gently scrub the case, bracelet, and clasp to remove dirt and oils accumulated between the links and crevices.
  • Rinse thoroughly with plain water and pat dry with a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth.

What You Should Not Do:

  • Never polish the watch yourself. Polishing a Rolex is a skilled art. An amateur polish can round off the sharp, factory-finished edges and bevels of the case, significantly diminishing its value. Leave polishing to professionals, or better yet, leave the watch unpolished. Many collectors prefer a watch with honest wear over one that has been improperly polished.
  • Never open the case back. This should only be done by a certified watchmaker in a clean environment. Opening the case back compromises the water-resistant seals and exposes the delicate movement to dust and moisture.
  • Do not use harsh chemical cleaners, ultrasonic cleaners (if you are not a professional), or abrasive materials. These can damage gaskets, coatings, and finishes.

Gathering Documentation and Accessories (The "Full Set")

As established, a "full set" dramatically enhances value. Before you begin the sales process, gather every possible accessory that belongs to the watch. This includes:

  • The original inner and outer boxes.
  • The original, dated and stamped warranty card or certificate.
  • All instruction manuals and booklets.
  • The chronometer hang tag (the red seal) and the model hang tag (the green tag).
  • Any extra bracelet links that were removed for sizing.
  • Any receipts from previous services performed by Rolex or a certified watchmaker.

Presenting a complete package demonstrates meticulous ownership and provides the buyer with the ultimate assurance of authenticity and provenance.

Taking High-Quality Photos Of Your Watch

In the age of online sales, your photographs are your most powerful tool. They are the first impression a potential buyer will have of your timepiece. Poor photography can make a mint-condition watch look undesirable and will deter serious offers.

  • Lighting is Key: Use natural, diffused daylight. Avoid harsh, direct sunlight which creates glare, and avoid using your camera's flash, which washes out detail. An overcast day near a window provides ideal lighting.
  • Use a Neutral Background: A plain white, grey, or black background will ensure the watch is the star of the show. Avoid cluttered or distracting backgrounds.
  • Focus on the Details: Use a camera with a good macro function or a smartphone in portrait mode to capture sharp, clear images. Take numerous photos from every conceivable angle:
    • A direct shot of the dial.
    • Angled shots of the case to show its thickness and the condition of the lugs.
    • A clear photo of the crown.
    • Photos of the bracelet and clasp.
    • A shot of the case back.
    • Photos of the complete set: the box, papers, and all accessories laid out neatly.
  • Showcase Flaws Honestly: Do not try to hide scratches or dents. A discerning buyer will spot them during an in-person inspection. Photographing them clearly builds trust and shows you are a transparent seller.

Where Can I Sell My Rolex? Choosing the Right Platform

The venue you choose for selling your Rolex will profoundly impact the speed of the sale, the price you receive, and the level of risk you assume. Each platform has a distinct profile of pros and cons.

Selling to Authorized Dealers & Trusted Online Buyers

This category includes established brick-and-mortar jewelers and reputable online platforms (such as SwissWatchExpo) that specialize in buying pre-owned luxury watches.

This is often the fastest, most secure, most convenient and trusted experience. The process is streamlined: you submit your watch for an initial estimate, they provide an initial offer, you ship the watch (fully insured if you choose SwissWatchExpo), they inspect it, and you get paid, often within a few days. You are dealing with a professional entity, which eliminates the risk of scams associated with private sales.

Listing on an Online Marketplace

These are platforms that allow you to list your watch for sale to a global audience.

These platforms give you access to a vast pool of potential buyers, which can lead to a higher selling price compared to selling to a dealer. You control the listing and the price.

This process is slower and carries higher risk. You must contend with platform fees and commissions, which can be substantial. The primary drawback is the risk of scams, which can range from fraudulent payment claims to buyers returning a different or damaged watch. You are responsible for vetting the buyer, managing the shipping and insurance, and handling any potential disputes.

Utilizing Auction Houses

Major auction houses like Phillips, Christie's, and Sotheby's are a viable, prestigious option for certain types of watches.

This is a good platform for exceptionally rare, vintage, or high-value pieces, especially those with unique provenance (e.g., celebrity ownership). An auction can create a competitive bidding environment that drives the final price far beyond typical full fair market value.

However, this is also by far the longest and most expensive process. From consignment to auction to final payment can take many months. Auction houses charge significant commission fees (a seller's premium) on the final hammer price. This option is generally not suitable for common, modern Rolex models.

The Selling Process and Key Considerations

Regardless of the platform chosen, the transactional mechanics and ethical obligations share common principles. A clear understanding of the process will ensure a smooth and professional exchange.

From Initial Inquiry to Final Offer

The journey typically begins with an initial inquiry where you provide the details of your watch. If selling online, this is when you take advantage of our free quote service to submit your photos and description for a quote. The buyer will respond with an initial or preliminary offer based on the information provided. It is crucial to understand that this offer is almost always contingent upon a physical inspection.

Once the watch is received, the buyer's experts will authenticate it, verify the originality of its parts, and assess its mechanical and cosmetic condition. If the watch matches your description perfectly, the initial offer will likely become the final offer. If the inspection reveals issues—such as the need for a service, undisclosed replacement parts, or more significant wear than described—the buyer will issue a revised, final offer. You will then have the choice to accept this final offer or have the watch returned to you.

Shipping and Insurance Best Practices

Shipping a high-value item like a Rolex is a source of significant anxiety, but it can be done safely by adhering to strict protocols.

  • Use the Insured Shipping Label: When selling to a reputable online dealer, they will almost always provide you with a pre-paid, fully insured shipping label. Use it.
  • Proper Packaging: Package the watch securely in a sturdy box with ample padding to prevent it from moving during transit.
  • Nondescript Labeling: The shipping label should never mention words like "Rolex," "watch," or "jewelry." This is a critical security measure to prevent targeted theft.
  • Secure Drop-off: Always drop the package off at a staffed facility for the designated carrier. Never leave it in an unsupervised drop box.
  • Obtain a Receipt: Always get a receipt confirming the package has been accepted by the carrier.

Strategies for Getting the Best Price

Achieving the best possible price for your Rolex involves a blend of strategic timing, effective marketing, and a clear-eyed assessment of your options.

Timing Your Sale: Is There a Best Time to Sell?

The market for pre-owned luxury watches is subject to economic currents, but it does not typically follow predictable seasonal patterns like other retail goods. While demand may see slight upticks around holiday seasons, the primary driver of value is broader market sentiment and model-specific demand. The best time to sell is less about the calendar and more about when your personal financial needs align with a stable or rising market for your specific model. Following watch market analysis from reputable publications can provide insight into whether prices for your model number is currently trending up or down.

Marketing Tips for Higher Visibility

Whether you decide to sell your watch to a luxury watch retailer or choose a platform that requires you to market the watch yourself, your presentation is key.

  • Write a Detailed, Honest Description: Detail its service history. Describe its condition using the standard terminology. A well-written, comprehensive description builds buyer confidence.
  • Use Your High-Quality Photos: Your photos are your primary marketing asset. Ensure they are clear, bright, and comprehensive.
  • Price Competitively: Research what similar watches (same model, reference, age, and condition) are currently listed for and have recently sold for on your chosen platform. An informed, fair market price is the fastest path to a sale.

Rolex Trade-In Options

Many dealers who buy Rolex watches also sell them. In many cases, they will offer you a trade-in option for your old watch, allowing you to use the value of your current watch as a credit toward the purchase of another watch from their inventory. This can be a highly attractive option, as dealers will often provide a slightly higher value for a trade-in than for an outright cash sale. This consolidates two transactions into one convenient process and can be a strategic way to upgrade your collection.

At SwissWatchExpo, we have perfected this trade-in process to be completely seamless and hassle-free. Our specialists will help you select the perfect timepiece from our unparalleled collection while simultaneously providing a top-value offer for your current watch. We make it simple to apply your credit directly to your purchase, creating one easy and satisfying transaction to help you upgrade your collection.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Navigating the sale of a Rolex often involves specific questions and concerns. Here are answers to some of the most common inquiries.

Can I sell my Rolex without its original box and papers?

Yes, you can absolutely sell a Rolex without its original documentation and box. However, you must be prepared for two consequences. First, the offer you receive will likely be lower than if you had the "full set." The papers, in particular, serve as proof of provenance, and their absence often reduces the watch's value to a collector. Second, the buyer will subject the watch to a more rigorous authentication process to be certain of its legitimacy.

Where can I find the reference number of my Rolex?

To locate the model or reference number of your watch, the most reliable source is usually the paperwork that came with it. Certificates and warranty cards often contain this information. Additionally, some watch brands may engrave the model number directly on the case. For example, in Rolex watches, the reference or model number can be found on the lugs at 12 o'clock where the case connects to the bracelet. Please know that to view this engraved number, you may need to remove the bracelet.

If you are uncertain about your watch's model or reference number, please include as many photographs as possible in your submission form, and our team will assess the details.

How long does selling with SwissWatchExpo take?

Our sales team will get back to with an appraisal within 1-3 business days (but usually within 24 hours) after we receive your submission.

On average, our sell or trade-in process takes around 4-7 business days to complete, but please note that this timeframe may vary due to various factors. We strive to ensure a seamless and efficient process for our customers. This average time frame covers the entire process, from the submission of your watch for trade-in to the moment you receive your payment or start wearing your newly purchased watch.

How long would it take me to sell my Rolex online?

The timeline depends heavily on the platform. When selling to a direct online buyer like SwissWatchExpo, the process can be remarkably fast—often from initial quote to final payment in just a few business days.

If listing on a marketplace, the process can take weeks or even months, as you must wait for the right buyer to come along. An auction house sale is the longest process, often spanning over six months.

What happens if my Rolex is worth more than I’m trading for?

If the value of your watch(es) is assessed to be higher than the watch you’re trading for, SwissWatchExpo will pay the difference through an E-check or bank wire transfer.
