Men's Heritage Black Bay | Tudor Watch Collection

241 MATCHES FOUND

The Tudor Heritage Black Bay is the brand’s signature range of tool watches – one that catapulted Tudor back into the luxury watch arena. The first Heritage Black Bay watch launched in 2010 took inspiration from the brand’s dive watches from the 1950s, whose signature legibility and ruggedness can still be seen in the entire collection today.

The Heritage Black Bay has grown into a series of watches – including the Pro, GMT, Fifty-Eight, Chrono, Bronze, and P01 – which offer different functionalities, but have distinct qualities that make them a uniform collection. The iconic Snowflake hands, large crowns, and unmistakably retro design form the backbone of the Heritage Black Bay collection. Tudor Heritage Black Bay Collection

Photo of Tudor Heritage Black Bay watch

Launched in 2012, the Heritage Black Bay brings together Tudor’s rich history of creating dive watches in one collection. This legacy can be traced all the way back to 1954, when they introduced the Tudor Submariner, the brand’s first professional diving watch, which remains highly sought after by collectors today.

The original Black Bay was part of a series of Heritage watches, wherein Tudor reached into their archives to create modern iterations of their best designs. Not only was the Tudor Black Bay well-received – it spawned an entire collection which now includes no less than nine families of watches – paying homage to legendary designs from the past, while also reinventing them in totally new ways.

From classic diver’s watches and tool watches with complications, to elegantly designed time-only models, there is a Tudor Black Bay for just about anyone. Explore our selection of Tudor Black Bay watches at SwissWatchExpo.com.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE TUDOR HERITAGE BLACK BAY COLLECTION

The Tudor Heritage Black Bay is one of the most successful dive watches and heritage models introduced in the previous decade. Launched in Baselworld 2012, the vintage-inspired line of diver watches was not only a hit from day one – it also put Tudor back in the luxury watch game after a hiatus.

Before the Tudor Black Bay came out in the market, the Tudor brand had been rebuilding its identity beginning in 2007. Their strategy was clear: to reach deep into their archives for inspiration and combine their strong heritage with modern design and technology.

Their winning streak began with the widely acclaimed Tudor Heritage Chrono of 2010, a watch inspired by their Oysterdate Chronograph from the 1970s. Stemming from its success, they continued to make vintage remakes and re-ignited the NATO strap craze along the way.

Five years later, they released the Tudor Heritage Black Bay; a vintage-inspired watch that is not a reboot of one particular timepiece – rather, it’s one watch that aimed to symbolize Tudor’s 60-year history of making dive watches.

Most of its details were inspired by vintage Tudor Oyster Prince Submariners. The first Black Bay model took a few vintage elements — the burgundy bezel, snowflake hand, and fabric strap – and combined it with a larger dial.

The large winding crowns were taken from the “Big Crown” Submariner ref 7924 from 1958, and while the geometric “Snowflake” hands were first seen in Tudor dive watches created for the French Navy in the 1970s. These elements tie together the Tudor Black Bay’s now diverse range.

The Tudor Black Bay was not means to be a carbon copy of an old model, but an attempt to use the best details of their vintage dive watches, on a new and contemporary watch. This design strategy made the Tudor Heritage Black Bay a runaway success.

Since its first outing in 2012, Tudor has introduced new variants of the Black Bay to the market. Some of the most important developments include the introduction of in-house movements in 2016 with the MT56XX caliber, and creation of models in solid gold and steel-and-gold finishes.

Alongside these improvements, Tudor also managed to pay tribute to parent brand Rolex’s most iconic designs, namely the Pepsi, Root Beer, and most recently, the Explorer II.

With its resounding success, the Tudor Heritage Black Bay has grown into the archetype of vintage-meets-modern done well.

ABOUT THE TUDOR HERITAGE BLACK BAY COLLECTION

Tudor reinvented itself successfully with the release of the Heritage Black Bay, a modern iteration of its vintage dive watches. An instant hit, it allowed Tudor to step out of the shadow of its parent company Rolex and come into its own as a brand.

Today, the Tudor Black Bay collection has 9 sub-collections, which can be divided according to function: diver’s watches, complications, and time-only models.

TUDOR BLACK BAY DIVING WATCHES

Tudor Black Bay
The Tudor Heritage Black Bay or Black Bay collection distills the brand’s history of creating diving watches into one truly iconic collection. The core Black Bay collection, introduced in 2012, features a large winding crown (based on the ref 7924 from 1958), while its angular hands were borrowed from Tudor dive watches created for the French National Navy in the 1970s.

This emblematic collection has 15 variations – steel (with black, blue, and burgundy bezels), steel and gold, and matte black ceramic.

Case diameter: 41mm
Movement: MT5602 / MT5602-1U
Water resistance: 200m

Tudor Black Bay Bronze
The Tudor Black Bay Bronze continues the homage to the brand’s naval history in a larger 43mm case and bronze construction. This watch was also the first Black Bay to be equipped with Tudor’s in-house movement, as earlier models were given ETA-based calibers. Tudor added aluminum to the bronze alloy of this model to control patina formation.

Case diameter: 43mm
Movement: MT5601
Water resistance: 200m

Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight
The Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight recreates the classic dive watch looks of the core collection in a more moderate size. With a 39mm case diameter and 11.9mm thickness, its construction is more reminiscent of a vintage Tudor Submariner. Gilt markers on the dial and bezel drive home the vintage aesthetic.

Case diameter: 42mm
Movement: M70150
Water resistance: 200m

Tudor Black Bay P01
The Tudor Black Bay P01 is a diver’s watch with a unique bezel locking system. It was inspired by a 1960s prototype created for the US Navy, which was a cross between a diving and sailing watch. This design is defined by a 12-hour bezel, a crown at 4 o'clock, and a protruding bezel locking mechanism to hold it in place.

TUDOR BLACK BAY COMPLICATIONS

Tudor Black Bay Chrono
The Tudor Black Bay Chrono is a vintage-leaning chronograph that harkens back to early Rolex Daytona models, while delivering 200m water resistance. The aesthetics take one straight back to the golden age of the chronograph with the choice of a panda or reverse panda dial, recessed registers in contrasting colors, tachymeter bezel, and screw-down pushers.

This model is available in steel versions (with a choice of panda or reverse panda dial) and a steel and gold version (with a choice of matt black or a sunray satin-finish champagne dial).

Case diameter: 41mm
Movement: MT5813
Water resistance: 200m

Tudor Black Bay GMT
The Tudor Black Bay GMT offers a “true GMT” complication – one with a independently set local hour hand – together with the Black Bay’s 200m water resistance. Largely inspired by the GMT-Master of Rolex, this model has a rotatable bi-directional 24-hour bezel and black dial with contrasting luminous hour markers.

To date, it comes in two versions – a steel model with a red-blue bezel, aptly called “Pepsi” in watch circles; and a steel and gold model with a brown-black bezel dubbed “Root Beer”.

Case diameter: 41mm
Movement: MT5652
Water resistance: 200m

Tudor Black Bay Pro
The Tudor Black Bay Pro is a GMT sport watch made for adventurers and professional explorers. It was largely inspired by the Rolex Explorer, in particular the Explorer II ref 1655 or “Frecionne”. The watch comes with a fixed steel 24-hour bezel, a bright orange Snowflake hand, and a specifically vintage-inspired look that makes it stand out beside Tudor’s other GMT watches.
