Girard-Perregaux was founded by couple Constant Girard and Marie Perregaux in 1854 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Born into Swiss watchmaking families, it was only natural for the two to continue the watchmaking heritage. In 1906, Girard-Perregaux acquired the Maison of Jean-François Bautte, the founder of the most complete watch manufacture of his time in Geneva. This merger positioned them as experts in Haute Horology, with designs that are works of art, from the jeweled cases to each component of the movement.
